Not sure what you mean CKLD
Do you mean I'm suggesting Sue1967 should stop the HRT? Possibly she should - if for no other reason than to see where she is in her meno journey and to see whether the periods are still heavy when not on HRT. A scan would be a good idea to check the womb lining - there could be fibroids that may need treatment and the HRT might be making these worse.
The Mirena is known to control problematic bleeding which is why it is so often recommended by many gynaes. For many women, whether in their fertile years or in peri meno, the Mirena will reduce heavy bleeding, if fibroids are present then the Mirena will often shrink them and many women find the Mirena will stop all bleeding (both in the fertile and peri meno stage) which can be a real bonus. In post meno it would be unusual to get any bleeding or spotting after the first few weeks - this makes the Mirena a very good option for many women as part of HRT treatment. It also allows as little or as much oestrogen to be used to control the menopause symptoms.
The Mirena delivers the progesterone more directly to the womb where it is needed so less is absorbed systemically, although some women do get some progesterone side effects initially in the first few months.
At the bottom of this page is the information about the Mirena - Sue1967, I would discuss this option with your doctor:
