Can I ask opinions please?
« on: June 06, 2016, 06:26:36 AM »

Hi ladies, wonder if anyone can help?  Been using 1 pump Oestrogel for a good while now, but the last couple of cycles have gone very erratic.  I'm having another bleed now after just 3 weeks and they are happening whilst still on the Oestrogel phase, ie, around day 10 of the cycle, and before I even start the 12 days of Utrogestan.  Last month I just used the Utro as normal and didn't get a bleed until around day 10 of the Oestrogel part.  It seems to have happened again.

Any ideas?  Do you think it's because I'm only using 1 pump of Oestrogel and my own cycle overrides it?  I'm wondering if increasing to 2 pumps (which I believe is the recommended starting dose anyway) will help?  Must admit, I have been getting hotter at night, but thought it was just the weather warming up.

Not sure what to do this month...... got a holiday coming up in just under 4 weeks, so would have preferred not to have a bleed then.  Do I take the Utro as normal in a week's time, increase the gel to 2 pumps?  Was trying to keep to the lowest dose I can, but perhaps it's not enough, especially if it doesn't keep the bleed in the "right place"......

My other thought was to stop the HRT for a while and see what occurs naturally?  Been on it for about 3 years so not sure what my own cycle is doing and I guess taking a break would be the only way to find out.

Sorry for so many questions. x

I use oestrogel, but have a Mirena for the progestogen part of my HRT.  I started on two pumps straight away but am just about to increase this (I'm perimenopausal and my own hormones are all over the place)

I would say try two pumps and see how you get on, as you say, this is the usual starting dose anyway.

I am on two pumps plus Utrogestan for 7 days. After 5 months (perimenopausal)the most bleeding I have had is a bit of spotting about two weeks after the Utrogestan. I am off to the doc to suggest a scan. Might be worth trying two pumps especially if you are getting night sweats

Thanks ladies........ I'm trying to decide today whether to increase to 2 pumps or stop altogether and see what occurs.... The latter is a daunting prospect as I'm peri as well and although I'd like to see what my own cycle is up to, I'm wary of stopping.

Decisions, decisions! x

Could you wait until after your holiday?

To stop, you mean?  Yes, I see your logic there....... just think I'm heading for another bleed on holiday at this rate, which will be a pain.

Thanks for your replies......I think I will try the 2 pumps of gel and see how I go.  Not sure I'm ready to take a break just yet (48 years).

Just wondering ..... as I'm having a proper bleed now, which is early, and I haven't started the Utro phase yet this month, would I still need to do that 12 nights at the same stage?  I assume I do, but that may mean I still can't get my cycle back on track.

Hi, I'm in a similar position as you.
I have been using estrogel 2.5 pumps (I'm 42 and peri) and I have been just reducing the estrogel to get a period (not ideal!) I have just had an appointment with a menopause specialist as I want to increase the estrogel and she has said that to override my cycle (which is obviously quite strong) I would need to be on at least 3 pumps but probably 4 pumps. I now plan to increase to this dose and use utro for 12 days. Praying that this will work as I don't want random bleeding.
It is all such a guessing game, all I want is to feel like me again.... not expecting 'perfect' just 'normal' would be great xx

Thanks for your reply, Saffy!  We do sound similar, I've been trying HRT for the last 3 years and still don't think I've got it right yet.  Perhaps we can keep in touch...... Do you mind me asking what your symptoms are? Can PM if you'd rather.

Hi Liz,
Yes no worries at all. My first symptoms (when I was 39) was extreme anxiety, feelings of not being able to cope, dizziness palpitations, shortly after began getting very bad frequency/bladder problems (like cystitis) followed shortly after by vaginal probs. I have seen some very useless GP's, was given antibiotics for months, told I was not old enough to be peri and to be honest left feeling like perhaps I was some mental case :'(

The estrogel at 2.5 pumps has helped with anxiety, still get the odd bad day, but reducing to allow for a bleed obviously means less estrogen for a week or so. Please bear in mind I have always had very long cycles 45-55 days only really reduced to 25 days since late 30's.
My main problem now is my bladder frequency and VA (intercourse although possible is very painful so I usually avoid, very understanding hubby thankfully). I'm using ovestin, but burns and makes frequency worse.
I am now paying private to see a menopause specialist and she has suggested 3-4 pumps of estrogel to suppress own cycle and 12 days prog and also Estring.
I am going to use progesterone bi monthly to start with at her suggestion, as this is the bit which may cause (in her words the most problems). As she said it is very much a case of trying these things and tweeking as we go along.
I will keep you posted. Please do update me as well xx

Saffy, if the Ovestin1mg stings then ask your GP for an alternative!!!! it won't improve on it's own.  Where exactly does it 'burn'? because Vaseline or Savlon can ease this.

I find that for 24 hours after treatment my bladder feels irritated but nothing like B4 I had a prescription!
