Testosterone script not a problem from my doctor
« on: February 23, 2016, 08:49:16 PM »

Just been to see my doctor since going to see professor Studd its took 3 week's to get in!  But worth it as she had no problems with giving me testim as long as he says so. So pleased about that but not about the palpitations I'm now having! Got the stick with it reply from him!  Lol
She also gonna arrange a scan of my womb lining to be done at surgery cos apparently we have a mobile unit. She did say however that she thought our local hospital might not be too clued up about prof Studd regime.  She new all about him though and we are the same age so think she may be using it in the future! ?

That's a good result Kate! Have you been prescribed this on the NHS or was it a private prescription? Brings hope to lots of women if it's now available on the NHS.

That's wonderful. I had to pay for a private prescription for testosterone, but am able to get the HRT prescription via my GP.

Through my GP on NHS she said if Professor Studd had prescribed it then it's no problem. She could see my level was nearly zero and said we would keep a check on levels.

Such good news as it's not licensed for use in women in the UK. Maybe things are changing!

Just to say in case it helps anyone, I got testosterone gel on NHS without asking for it, my NHS specialist (women's sexual health clinic) suggested it offered it to me when I said my libido had died.  I was in Wales at the time.

For the record, I tried it but it made me feel a bit cross, spotty and made no difference to my libido.

That's great - I hadn't taken any of that on board re the T prescription from docs on NHS!  I will be trying when mine begins to run out :)

Hi peri - can I ask how old you are? My gynae did mention that he would prescribe it for women under 50 who were having problems with libido (following a hysterectomy though) but both he and my docs say that as it is not licensed for women in the UK they wouldn't be able to prescribe it for anyone over the age of 50.

clovie I see it caused spots for you? Ive been using it for about 4 months and used to apply it on my shoulder but it's given me acne there 😁 ive never had any skin problems so im really fed up about it. Ive stopped applying there now for a few weeks and cut my dose in half but it's still there im trying to treat it but might have to pop to Dr...what skin problems did you get? Did they go when you stopped? Did you just stop using it? I think I might stop completely and see if it clears up :( Thx

Have you tried inner thigh Niamh? The only side effect I get there is hair growth (I mentioned elsewhere today on "waxing" thread!). Maybe your dose is higher anyway - mine's a pea-sized blob. I was paranoid about getting hair on face so didn't want to go any higher. :)

Thanks Hurdity I do inner lower arm at the moment which is where I put the ostrogel. Yes I was on a decent dose 1 tube in 8 days but I'm now doing a small pea blob so about 2 weeks for 1 tube, I actually prefer the lower dose but I'm inclined to also stop for a while as im doubting what it's helping now, higher dose helped libido but I think it made me a bit cross and then this acne...where on inner thigh do you do it I have to keep hair everywhere at bay tbh lol so id be worried about there!x

Hi Niamh, I used it on my tummy, and I started getting spotty on my chin!
Strange that you got spots where you applied it, that would seem (to me) that you were reacting to the gel as in an allergy?

Yes , my greasy spotty chin disappeared after I stopped. To be fair I didn't try it for a long time, perhaps 2 lots of 2 weeks, each time it made me irritable and cross as well as spotty, and no discernable improvement to my libido  - to stop was a no brainer  :D x

Niamh I was putting it on upper inner thigh about 4 ins from vag but due to the hair effect (btw if you have any suggestions about removing this please can you post on the Waxing thread I started in This and That as this is a new thing for me - hair on upper thigh so any ideas that haven't already been made would be welcome!) and another side effect which I won't go into and is probably my imagination, but I found slightly alarming  ::). I decided to try lots of different places. The only thing is I imagine absorption will vary  a bit due to the different thickness of skin.

I looked up the old SPC product info for Intrinsa to see where application was recommended - as it's (was) the only licensed product for women and it said on the abdomen below the waist - but not buttock (this was for the patches). So now I'm applying blobs around my front abdomen as well as inner thighs but a bit further down towards my knee (might start getting a bit hairy there too!!).

Strange how we react differently eg re the acne Clovie - I've not a spot in sight anywhere ( mustn't speak too soon!). Perhaps my dose is too small, and my own T had declined much more than yours - which stands to reason as I'm 62 - so it's still probably quite low.

Sorry Kate50 we're going off your topic but it's still about T :)
