Post menopause bleeding with Merina coil hrt
« on: January 28, 2016, 11:50:51 AM »

I am 3 years post menopause and 2 years ago I had a merina coil fitted and use Oestrogen patches. Yesterday I started to bleed and I am really panicking! I have a doctors appointment at 2 today but have convinced myself it is something serious :(

Hi and welcome - is the Mirena still in place?  Sometimes they drop out and we are not aware.
It's good to get things checked but some spotting with the Mirena is not unusual I believe. Keep us posted.Dg x

Thank you for your reply. I can still feel the strings I think. I have had no bleeding in the 2 years since it was put in. I am trying to think maybe it is just a polyp as I have had those in the past before having the coil fitted but my mind jumps to worst case scenario. It doesn't help that I have IBS which has similar symptoms to more serious things.

It's probably breakthrough bleeding because your lining has been building up for a while.  The thing with the Mirena is it will make you shed once it gets to a certain level.  You could have a scan just to make sure but I think it's a common problem.  Good luck and please let us know what the doctor says.

I have been to the doctors and they have sent an emergency referral to the hospital and I will be seen for tests within 2 weeks.

I assume that means a scan.  At least that means you can get it properly checked out.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.
