Advice please
« on: December 16, 2015, 12:21:27 PM »

I was put on estradot 37.5mcg 9 weeks ago and felt great for 3 full weeks then bad flushes started for upped to 50mcg but within a week had blinding headaches but kept on this for 4 weeks but they did not subside. My question is I have downed to 37.50mcg and headache gone. When changing doses do you get flushes then it settles or is it too low tried in the midle by cutting the patch but still felt high. Still have tender breasts and no appetite I have lost half a stone in the last week.  I would like to hear from anyone with advice reducing patches. I have no ovary function so not my own hormones xxx

Sorry to hear this donnacrichton.

I really don't know how to help and think you need some specialsit advice. If you have no ovarian function, as I think we have said before, 50 mcg is not a high dose at all, and it is usual to increase the dose of oestrogen to a level at which flushes cease - at least at the very minimum. For instance I came off HRT a few years ago and after 3 months all the flishes were back so doc put me back onto 25 mcg (aiming to reduce my "dependence"). This worked for while but still had some flushes so went back up to my original dose of 50 mcg and they went. Even when I reduced to 37.5 mcg a couple of years ago after some investigations, the flushes started to return. I am very surprised that even though you have flushes on 37.5 mcg, you get a headache that persists after such a small increase.  You would not expect flushes due to an increase in oestrogen and really ideally you should be able to tolerate 50 mcg.  If you have no ovarian function then you are presumably lacking in testosterone too? It could be that the headaches are caused by lack of this - maybe exacerbated by the increase in oestrogen? I don't think this is well understood. When I went to see Annie Evans she said that lack of T often caused headaches, I have definitely had fewer migraines recently since taking T (since May). Can you get a referral and ask to have some of this? Then you might be able to increase the oestrogen without headaches? Just a thought.

I have a specialist appointment next week but spoke to my GP today. All he could advise was everyone is different and maybe I need less estrogen. I do seem to have extreme sensitivity to any fluctuations which I don't understand as I would have had these naturally. They have never discussed any other hormone. I also get a very strange reaction to estrogen at the same time as it's high for headaches and it is been aroused constantly I know this is tmi and this only resolves when dose age is reduced. Two years ago I was on 150 mcg estradot and every change we have made has been a reduction. I don't know if you can be sensitive but every now and again It feels completely the right dose and I feel great then I fluctuate again and it's back to square one even though the dose hasn't changed. Very confused but want to have questions ready for when I meet the consultant next week x

When reducing your dose does the fluctuations cause more flushes rather than too low just want to know if this should settle. X
