Weird sensations
« on: December 10, 2015, 04:01:10 PM »

OK so I am going to risk a weekend of worry here.  I am 2 years into peri, on estrogel and progestogel,  still having a (more or less monthly) period.  It can go from 15 days to 40 at the moment, and I am expecting it skip or stop very soon.  I am a few days after my last period and I am having a bad time with morning and health anxiety - almost debilitating.  Irritable too :-(  Like I want to kill someone.

Peri has meant for me lots of food sensitivities, an itchy scalp, fatigue,  feeling rough, lots of anxiety.  My weirdest symptom, which I haven't seen anyone else mention, is weird sensations in my boobs. Tingling, itching, sore, aching. Both of them, but one worse than the other.  In September I had a mammogram, which was all clear, and they told me not to hurry back. I have no lumps I can feel.  In my anxious state I can of course convince myself that something is up and that not everything shows in the mammogram.  Can anyone relate or reassure?  Is this itching / tingling normal for peri?

Hi imgeha, and welcome to the forum!
For reasurance, I also do get similar sensations in both breasts, particularly right before a period is due - I guess because of hormones playing, they also bring about changes in breasts. I haven't had such sensations before peri, maybe only when I was pregnant. Like you, my mamo is all clear. For me, it feels like pulling from inside, comes and goes. Scarry but after I had my mamograph, I did relax. Am trying not to get too worked up about it. Easier said than done!

You are not alone, it's not in the least unusual to worry about these things, I always do and I know how debilitating to can be.  I have had all sorts of weird breast sensations for many years and I can relate to that pulling sensation not to mention breast pain which I always had when on the BCP and using progestins.

I watched a documentary on TV about breast cancer years ago and got so worked up about it, I had sleepless nights and I poked and prodded my breasts to the extent they became extremely painful.  I was only about 32 at the time.

I spoke to the doctor who does my breast scans and he said it is perfectly normal to get these sensations in the breasts.

The increased allergies are quite normal too, I found I developed more as I got older.

I have had all of the above. Itching, warmth, sharp pains, sore nipples, swelling, etc. For the moment everything is calm...

thanks everyone.  It's very reassuring   These were my first peri signs two years ago, and they largely went away with one pump a day of estrogel.  They are now back, so I am guessing this dose may not be high enough.   It is definitely worse in the morning, which is when the anxiety is just horrendous.  And the health anxiety is off the scale!

Hi

My breasts are so sensitive to every change now in my hormones, so much so I now know which part of my cycle I am in by my breasts.  I have had the pulling too, the heaviness of them constantly, the pain... you name it, which gives me terrible health anxiety all the time.  One thing to try though is rubbing vitamin e cream into them, I sometimes notice it does help.  I am going through the roughest time ever with peri and I feel for everyone of you that is going through this nightmare xx

Quite a relief to read all these posts and see how many others suffer from similar symptoms.  My breasts have been quite painful for about a week.  I haven't had a period for 5 years and have never had this sensation.  IF I can remember that far back it feels a bit like when I was pregnant or had bad PMT.

I've been so anxious about it which doesn't help I know.

I had a mammogram this year and all clear.  Also I read that if both breasts are painful it wouldn't be due to cancer, so thats something to be glad about.

I've managed to get through all the common symptoms of menopause but never thought that at this stage a new one would arrive.

I suppose that's why I'm anxious about it.  Something new and unexpected.  Thank goodness for this forum!
