Supermoon lunar eclipse
«

Is anyone staying up or getting up in the night to see this?
We are - but don't intend to stay up all night - but sometime before 3 am hopefully!

Too cloudy here, unless it clears during the night.

I'm setting my alarm for 3 because it's sod's law that the night I need to be awake I won't wake up even though I always wake up every hour or so!! Starts at 1.10 and turns completely red at 3.10 lasting till 4.24 and all back to normal by 6.25 apparently. It's really brilliant here but I do miss those huge Suffolk skies on nights like this!

Who watched it? I did from 2 till 4 and found it really eerie and beautiful. You can see how ancient peoples would have been so scared as the moon gradually dimmed.

Yes we did Taz! Husband set the alarm for 2.45 but it was 2.45 in the day!! Fortunately he woke up so we went outside until 3.30 - I agree it was amazing! It was such a clear starry night! He took lots of photos but I don't think they will show that much - you really need to photograph it against buildings or trees and it was quite high in the sky. I couldn't get back to sleep properly after that and got up at 5.30 to see what was left and it just looked like a normal (but super)-moon by then. Couldn't see the last bit of the eclipse because of the brightness. Good view from our bedroom window too! .
Sorry to hear that Scampi - only another18 years to wait!

I watched it too - it started so silvery white and slowly all that was left was a sliver, crescent shaped at the bottom before it turned a soft red, it was definately a bit eery, but really beautiful. It looks so 3D, like a giant bauble hanging in the sky

I got up at about 3 - (voyage to the loo)
At that stage, the sky was clear, the moon was 40 ish % darkish
Disappointed I went back to bed, OH stayed up taking pictures.
He wasn't too impressed but there was a bit of mist by that stage

DH went to bed (work today) but I stayed up as it's not like I sleep that well anyway. I kept going out to take pics but only have a cheap-y camera so don't expect too much. I saw the bit where it was starting to cover / turn red, then the total red, then the partial red again. It was pretty impressive but I really regret not driving somewhere I could have seen it with something interesting in front. Oh well, I may remember next time

I watched it from about 2.45 when I got up for the usual nightly wee for over half an hour - it started with the white bottom then as that disappeared almost suddenly went red. Thought I saw a meterorite as well just as it went totally red. It was really stunning.
