Broken Tooth
« on: September 25, 2015, 04:24:57 PM »

I have broken my tooth, it already has a root canal filling but most of the tooth has broken away.  I am hoping they can rebuild it but there is not much left.  Has anyone else had a tooth saved when most of it had gone?  Need some words of encouragement, I get so nervous at the dentist :'(

I got crowns in 3 of mine.

I was informed that ibuprofen was best, if you can take it, for toothache.Hope it doesn't hurt over the weekend.

My sis has had similar although she broke her bridge. She ended up having an extraction and now has one tooth on a plate. She says it's great.....she is pain free,,,,and more dental treatement free too. This just happened on Wednesday and she is the biggest coward. It's was absolutely fine.

If your dentist can save your tooth then that's what he/she will do.

Hope you remain pain free but given the fact the root is dead you should be fine.

toffeecushion - I expect there are a number of things you can have done.  If the tooth already has a root canal filling then you shouldn't feel any pain because the tooth is essentially dead - the nerves have been removed. It depends which tooth it is but 3 of my premolars have root canal fillings, very little actual tooth left but with a post put into the remaining root and then that post holds a crown. DG x

Just got back from the dentist and she managed to repair it - such a good feeling coming out of the dentist :)

Well done!  Was the procedure as scary as you feared?

Not at all, she just rebuilt it.  No drilling or numbing required :)
