Here's hoping
« on: September 04, 2015, 11:39:12 AM »

I'm hoping to make an appointment to see Dr Annie Evans as I'm getting so annoyed and angry with you know who  ::) I can't believe that he's been so busy over the last 3 weeks that he hasn't had time to respond to any of my desperate e-mails  >:( I feel so let down by him and really can't believe I've been treated like this from a health professional  :-\ >:(

Anyway hopefully Dr Evans can offer me some advice and a clearer way forward  :)

Has anyone seen her?

Thanks sparkle x

Well just when I think things can't get any worse!! I finally got a reply and I swear he's losing his marbles! I think he must have me confused with another patient???

I am sorry that you are not feeling so well.  My notes tell me that you are better than square one and that you feel ‘wonderful' on the implants and that you only have problems with the progestogen.

When I saw you last you told me that you are no better with the implant but no doubt this was because there was no testosterone.  I am about to receive a dozen testosterone pellets in the next few days so perhaps you would like to call and if you wish I will insert a testosterone pellet for you.  I do not know whether you still have problems with the progestogen.  We can discuss that as well.

I have NEVER told him that I feel 'wonderful' on the implants??
No testosterone?? I did have testosterone (he did the implant)! and a double dose at that!
He was the one who told me I was progesterone intolerant??

:bang: I actually feel like this!

Oh dear. Hope my GP isn't like that with me next week. I've finally got appointment with one who put me back on HRT a few years back when I was struggling. He's a hard man to get hold of & receptionists kept giving me other GPs. Causes a horrendous problem with continuity. They don't read your notes & you spend most if the appointment getting them up to speed.

Sorry to hear this Estelle...

In answer to your question - I've been to see Annie Evans and I reported on it in Private Lives and will bump it up for you. If you do decide to see her - try to ask (the secretary) about whether she covers all the things you want - I don't know what the position is about procedures (such as implants, blood tests etc) as I only saw her the once. There is usually quite a wait as she only does maybe a couple of days a month in Bristol and also in Cornwall - so best to make an appointment sooner rather than later as you can always cancel (with a bit of notice) and they can always fill the space due to a waiting list I think. Her website would tell you anyway.

Thanks Hurdity  :)
His appts are £250 or just around that figure, but for that all you get is like 15/20 minutes with him and most of that is him looking at his notes from last appt and then speaking into his dictaphone! You prob get about 10 minutes to actually discuss anything and he never really goes into any real detail  :-\ blood tests are another £250/300 and then whatever he prescribes on top!
And in our case train and underground cost which comes to approx another £100 odd

Hi Estelle - re the Annie Evans thread - it wasn't in Private Lives after all and I did bump it up for you but you may not have realised it was the one I meant so here it is:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,27919.0.html

Re Prof Studd - what a pity re his consultations not being up to scratch. Of course - he is an extremely eminent gynaecologist and has done a huge amount of very important research into menopause, progesterone and the endometrium, hormones and depression amongst others and has written numerous papers over the years and helped thousands of women get better treatment for menopause. However he has long ago (not sure when) retired from NHS and only treats women privately. It is a pity that there  is no-one to complain to - maybe there is - if your consultation (and communication) is lacking. If you are paying that sort of money you deserve 100% dedicated accurate attention and treatment. One should be able to work to any age provided you can function well but it seems maybe your husband is right. I presume women will have to rely on sites like this for feedback.

That being said I am sure the treatment offered will work fine for many women - but those experiencing problems such as yourself deserve better.

Re the man thing - I don't think that is the case. There are other very well regarded male gynaecologists - but with better communication and bedside manner so money better spent. Equally there are women doctors ( not sure about gynaes - one wold hope that such female specialists would always have our interests at heart!) who are totally unsympathetic about menopause and peddle the same dogma about HRT being unsafe!

Having said all of this - it is so inequitable that women have to pay for good treatment and it is only available to those who know about it ( more educated) and can afford it  >:(

I agree totally Hurdity, after researching him I thought he was the best way forward for me, he's clearly done so much for women over his career and no doubt helped lots unfortunately just not me  :( that being said there are other women who have experienced the lack of communication, understanding and support that I have, just goes to show you don't always get what you pay for  :-\ since seeing him I feel I've had to find answers to my queries on my own  >:(
The reasons I have chose to see Dr Evans are that on her website she says she likes to help women of all life stages including peri menopause, I think that's where I am at the moment? Listening to her videos she seems very understanding of what we go through and also very approachable, maybe this is because she is a woman and has or is going through what we all go through I don't know? What I do know is that I can't go on paying for a service that I'm just not happy with  :(
