Too much estrogen ?
« on: August 03, 2015, 12:47:02 PM »

Hi all

Wonder did anyone have any input into the possibilities of me maybe having too much estrogen !

For those that don't know my current regime is to have 1mg estrogen only for 9/10 weeks then utrogeston for 10 days as well to shed any build up. Was ok with this for the first cycle but after next 8 weeks of estrogen only a few old symptoms started to crop up ,not as bad as originally was but there none the less slight background nausea, slight background anxiety, extreme tiredness so I've started to take the utrogeston early to see if after a bleed I feel better. What crossed my mind was at age 56 and using 1mg estrogen only for a long time could these symptoms be down to too much estrogen ! As others have said previously to much/ too little seem to have very similar symptoms.
Any thoughts on this at all, thought I'd cracked it this time ! Who said that things were easier when older !  :-\

Surely the body would dispose of extra oestrogen?

Apparently not ! Too high levels give similar side effects as too little  :-\

I have same symptoms for too high which confused me a lot with trying to get correct dose. I get flushes and anxiety and insomnia with too much. Takes longer to get estrogen to lower levels. Hope you get sorted.

Is increased tiredness definitely high oestrogen? When I thought this, other people on here corrected me, saying it had to be high progesterone or low oestrogen causing fatigue as oestrogen is a 'lifter'. I do know my nausea is worse when my oestrogen is low (get it  during the pill free days on the pill) - though again, I had originally thought it was a sign of high oestrogen. It's all so confusing - not good fr minds that are already anxious and tired!  :-\                        x

Confusing is definitely an understatement ! It's a minefield  >:(

Yes Dr Google says high estrogen symptoms include extreme fatigue and foggy head .

Hello dazned.

Not wishing to ruin anyone's day but this too much/ too little oestrogen gets even worse when you look at the side effects of  HRT, at least the one I'm using. On the patient information leaflet that is included with my Evorel Conti 50 mcg patches the  common list of side effects that fewer that one in ten people experience are:

Being unable to sleep
Feeling depressed, nervous or anxious
Headache
Being aware of your heartbeat ( palpitations )
Flushing
Feeling sick (nausea)
Diarrhoea
Stomach ache
Pain including pain in the back or joints
Feeling tired
Weight gain

And that is only some of them!  I suppose there is comfort from knowing that hormone levels do influence all of these things but it would be nice if you didn't have to wonder if the HRT was causing as many problems as it was helping.
Minefield indeed.

Wishing you well in spite of it all!

After this bleed I'm going back to my Dr,got double appointment booked, and going to get her hopefully to prescribe another 3 months of hrt that specialist prescribed, then ask her what/how would she support me if I stop hrt, which is what she would prefer anyway,as this time I can't seem to get settled at all like I did the first time 5/6 years ago. If I don't get on with nothing except my AD then I've got prescription ready to hand. Can't keep putting up with this OK one minute then not it's so wearing isn't it !

Thanks for that Kathleen !  ;D
I have all of those except the headaches and weight gain that's probably next week's symptom !

http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_97238.htm

This information has also helped me figure things out a bit. Also I would like to point out that when you read the side effects of taking utrogeston/prometrium they are almost identical to the estrogen side effects except for the sleepiness caused by progesterone. All I big puzzle and impossible to figure out it seems.....oh to be hormonally balanced...this is what I wish for when I blow out my candles :cake:

What would happen if testosterone was unbalanced and high ?
How could that be reduced/balanced?

That list of hi/low symptoms is so useful, except I have symptoms from both lists.

So my withdrawal bleed arrived yesterday (despite not taking any Utro) and I am having a nasty mood dip now, so feel anxious, depressed, little appetite, headaches, touch of diarrhoea, sleep issues, no sex drive.

Does this follow the 'right' pattern for low prog and low oestrogen? I can't work it out because my brain is so foggy right now.

But when I am feeling 'good' I am hungry most of the time, sleep really well, feel quite bloated with slightly tender boobs, sex drive perks up quite a bit, feel very cheerful and loving my life.

Is this too high oestrogen? Sorry to sound so dim and confused. I have peri meno brain. Earlier today I couldn't remember my daughter's middle name for a moment!

Oh, and I often get palpitations and achy joints. But never get hot flushes or vaginal dryness or yeast infections.

I am just a total mix of the two. I wish more than anything that I knew more accurately whether it was low oestrogen or high prog that causes these mood dips/anxiety then you could take more appropriate precautions to help.
