Back from Gynae consultation
« on: June 05, 2015, 11:07:59 AM »

Been to see Gynaecologist today
He said because I was young (32) when I had my hysterectomy and within 6 months my ovaries stopped working efficiently I started menopause then (have been on max dose oestrogen since then) and that now I'm nearing the end but have been dealt quite a severe one going by symptoms, but there's nothing I/they can do, it's aged my body probably earlier than it should've done, I think by that he's referring to my shoulder problem, and eye problem.  He did a vaginal examination and said that I can continue to do 2x10mg vagifem 2x weekly and will write to gp and confirm (GP said I could only do 1 insertion twice weekly) and he said vagina looks and feels pre meno condition, best bit of news I had

He said I can be on my oestrogen and vagifem for life but to be mindful that after age 60 I increase risk of breast cancer but as long as I'm aware, I'm allowed to carry on

He's told me to pursue all other conditions with relevant specialists but will probably get the answer that its ageing and wear and tear

I asked about pro gest as I had started using that but phased it out and he said if there was no bad effects from it I can use that continuously, so I might introduce it again and see if there's any improvement

Sounds like you have a good gynae - isn't it great when they give you the facts and let you make up your own mind re risks v life quality?  Hope today is really helpful in establishing the best possible way of managing your symptoms and having a full and active life.

Hmmm not really Dorothy as basically I just have to get on with the symptoms, trouble is if I start changing my oestrogen I risk side effects on top of my symptoms, tried same brand but pill to patch and had massive migraines .  I'm thinking to just carry on with this pill that I've tolerated for years.  I'm sure I last ovulated last September so (hopefully) things might improve one day soon

It was refreshing to speak to a professional who is really pro hrt though

Sorry to hear this.  I can understand you not wanting to change what you are taking.  Hope you are able to find some ways of easing/living with your symptoms.
