Why can't workmen just do their jobs properly first time! Shouldn't be so hard to do if they've any pride in their work.

If you used a 'jobbing' builder he would have done the lot.  However, the give away is in the 'name', i.e. a joiner does carpentry, a roofer does roofing, a tiler will put tiles on a roof or will do tiling indoors.  Builders take on several jobs at once so they never seem to be where they 'ought' to be 
Who is over-seeing the job?  Is the builder in charge of all the tradesmen ?

Trust me, we will use the current jobbing builder for everything from now on.

The case for the defence - When we've done things to roofs in the past, the roofer did everything, including joinery and rendering, (mind you he'd done time for GBH, perhaps that's where he learned his skills and why nobody upset him)   

Back to the present, we had seen work done by the current roofer chap which is why we wanted to use him, though, we now know the roof in question, was for the builder we are currently speaking to 

Anyway, the builder arrived at 5.30, OH explained the situation, showing pictures he'd taken. Builder's comment was, "well that's hurricane @@@@@ for you". The builder is going to come with the joiner on Friday morning to sort things out, Phew

Hope you haven't paid up in full yet Limpy....I suspect not. It's amazing how quickly they will fix things if they are waiting for the money.
I hope you get it sorted out soon.
At least it's the "summer" so it's a while yet before the weather will have any great impact.

Plenty time to get sorted.

Pride in a job well done seems to be a thing of the past. It's very sad really.

You're right HB, no money has exchanged hands - even the roofer who requested half payment faded into the background. As you say, the weather isn't too bad and the cavalry arrive on Friday morning.

Funny how that focuses the mind - they're so much less likely to do a runner when they're waiting to be paid

The building bits of the roof are completed. 
Now, there is just the painting to do, and OH can't paint whilst it's sunny, shame really as it's going to rain tomorrow

Mine can't paint because it's showery. Need garage painted. Got the paint, just not the weather.

Like you say CG - YeeHaaaaaaa!!!

As I type OH is up on the roof painting the chimneys, second coats.
He just wants to get it all finished and the sun did the decent thing and went in.

UPDATE

Turns out the building work ain't finished, there's still big holes in the leadwork, and that's after the "remedial work"
OH will sort it out. Strange, we had thought employing professionals OH wouldn't have to go the roof himself. 

The good news is that the sun went in this afternoon so OH was able to get lots of painting done, only a couple of small areas left now. Thank goodness the scaffolding is still up......

Ladies - The roof really is finished! 

OH has now finished doing all the bits which need the scaffolding - painting new chimney render - fitting new outside lamp.

Cheque has been written for Roofer who says scaffolding will come down on Thursday or Friday - perhaps it's not finished till the scaffolding comes down.............
