There've been a few comments of other threads BUT the real work on replacing the roof starts on Thursday. That's what the Roofer / Builder say..........

Scaffolding is up now - Yes in the gale force winds!

The whole roof...as in all the tiles and all that goes along with that....as in struts 

Good grief how are you going to keep hubbies feet on the ground..

The last time we had roof work done was a shared roof in our flat and given the fact it was so high hubby did not go up. Every other time he has been up there ..."checking"

The forecast says the wind is going to die down and it will be mild. Fingers crossed for you. Hope you have a few day trips planned to get away from the noise.

Thanks ladies, thankfully it looks like the weather is about to improve.

The struts remain, whatever slates can be kept they will, else all will be replaced. The worrying thing is this is a very windy part of the world.

The old roof was torched, i.e. plaster applied to the underside of the slates, that has all dropped off, so new proper insulation is going to be fitted between the struts. It ain't going to be relaxing. Yes HB, he's been up on the roof, removing old TV & Radio aerials, oh and tying down the scaffolding boards before the strong winds. All should be quiet till Thursday.......

At some point in the not too distant future I will have to get my roof reslated. Not looking forward to the experience. And according to a roofer, my roof uses Welsh slate not Scottish. Strange! All to do with the size or summat! Anyway, best of luck.

Most roofs across the World are Welsh slate 

New Specs too, so Building Regs. will be on site to check that the correct level of insulation etc. is installed. One doesn't simply throw up a ladder and a few tiles these days tha knows

Thanks Bramble we need all the luck we can get, it's awful windy here.

The daft thing is, here, in Wales, much of the slate used is Spanish! 
It costs less, well, that was the case 5 years ago.

A slight concern has arisen about the roof work, our telephone line is connected just under the eaves.
It seems s bit vulnerable, hope it stays up. If I disappear later in the week, it's cos I can't get online.

Ladies - It's official.

The work on the roof really does start tomorrow.
Insulation blocks have just been delivered, the roofers arrive tomorrow morning at 8.15.

I know it needs to be done, so why am I dreading it?

For all the usual reasons - it's a big job, expensive, will it go ok, the noise, the mess, having strange men around, the fact your OH is stressed about it.......................the length of time it will take, the mess, the noise etc etc etc
All in all, loads of reasons to be stressed!

Didn't know that slate was grown in Spain 

I hate having workmen around the place even those I know so I understand your jitters …….

Thanks ladies - I knew there must be a reason I'm not looking forward to it....... 

One thing is I'me going to have to keep all the curtains closed as I'me getting up.
We've not got anybody living close, so having people looking in will be very strange.
The positive thing is that they will be outside, not coming in, but even so.....

I actually like having workmen in  . I get in the teabags and the biscuits and try to go with the flow.
In our last house we had decorators in for a month. They even ate with us and I missed them when they went. We still exchange Xmas cards 

At least like you said they are outside. Try and get away from the noise for a wee  while each day. How long do you expect them to take.

There is no firm estimate as to how long it will take, it depends if any struts need replacing 
OH thinks a couple of weeks........ 
We'll see. What will be will be.
I'll stock up on more teabags, biscuits, sugar and milk on Friday when we go into town.

I do have a nightie CLKD - It's just that it isn't worn at all times!
