5 weeks off hrt - symptoms back
« on: June 02, 2015, 08:12:30 AM »

Hi everyone

I posted not long ago about not being able to tolerate any progesterone -  so after seeing a specialist he said I have three options - take Tibolone (felt worse). Option two - come off hrt and see how I go - well I've been off for five weeks and the sypmtoms are back. I feel dreadful - not sleeping, flushes, restless, weird chest feelings, sad, .crying.etc. omg what  do I do now I've had just about enough of not living a normal life. Been going throught this for 10 years. Option three - have hysterectomy (uterus only I think) because I can't take any progesterone and then just take estrogen in form of patches.

Please help - am I going insane - is this menapause or could it be something else - feel like my sole is fading.

Thank you in advance

It's undoubtedly the menopause - which HRT options have you tried so far?

Hi morwena - I've tried all the progesterones - can't take any - I have now to decide whether to have a hysterectomy or not so that I can take just estrogen. Feel so bad this morning  debating whether to stick a patch on but can't decide which strength ie. 50mcg or 75mcg can't decide whether to go to work can't decide whether to ring gp - just don't know wat to do - I have an appointment with specialist end June.

Thanks for replying xx

I think having a hysterectomy would be a bit of a drastic solution - like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Have you tried Femoston or the Mirena Coil?

Hello PollyH.

So sorry that you are suffering and I sympathise with your frustration ( apparently not being able to make decisions is another of the gifts the menopause gives us). I think in your situation I'd gather all the information I could, including from the lovely ladies on this site and then explain to your specialist that a resolution must be found and prepare yourself if that turns out to be a hysterectomy.

One of the ladies has posted a news link about a woman whose menopause took ten years to get through and it would be great to think that yours is coming to a natural end after all this time.

Wishing you well and keep posting.

Thank you all for the replies.

I can't take utrogestan - tried femoston and the mirena coil ther is nothing left.

Wher is the news post about that woman Kathleen ?

Also I can't believe that I felt ok for the first four weeks especially last weekend and all of a sudden this weekend just gone it all has come tumbling back. Feel like my life is going nowhere. Am I being impatient - should I give it longer than five weeks - I am midges away from sticking a patch back on like a druggy.

Hello PollyH.

I'm afraid I don't know how to copy the link myself but I can tell you where to find it if that helps.

In the All things menopause section dazned has a thread titled  "NICE report this morning".  Peegeetip replied and included a link to a BBC news item. The woman it features didn't use HRT and suffered terribly but after ten years she was out the other side and is doing well.

As I said before I know how frustrating this whole business is and perhaps go back on the patches at least until your appointment at the end of June.

Sending hugs and best wishes.

How bad is your progesterone intolerance? Can you cope with 7 days per month? There are women have have quite severe progesterone intolerance but seem to manage on a low-ish oestrogen on a long cycle with progesterone. What are your symptoms with the different progs?

If you are feeling that bad and you have an appointment at the end of June I would put on a 50 mcg patch - but ideally I would try with 25 mcg (cut it in half) and see how you get on - can you cope? I can't remember how old you are and how long since menopause ie last natural period (if you know that is)? If you can manage on that amount of oestrogen which is very low dose, then a gynae should allow you to be on a longer cycle or lower dose/shorter course of progesterone. Norethisterone is a very strong one so you could take less. Utrogestan is bio-identical as you probably know. Have you tried Utro vaginally? Sorry I can't remember.

Just a few thoughts - as hysterectomy is very drastic.

Five weeks is not that long esp as you have only been feeling u/s for the last week. I would tough it out until you see your specialist in June.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies you ate all so kind - I hear all your advice and it really does help. I still feel crap and am going on holiday next Sunday.

I am 51 and post menopause for about three years cus been on Hrt for 10 years and started peri early so don't know about last natural period. I can only take 4 100mg utrogestan vaginally. So not much hope there. Have tried everything.

Has anyone tried fx Nutrition - the website has good reviews - I am going to have to do something before i go on holiday. Either hrt patch or try fx nutrition but can't make a decision.

Any advice really appreciated.

Hysterectomy is a very drastic step to take ! Certainly not to be taken lightly . I too don't do well with progesterone so am taking under guidance it 10 weekly. What exactly do you experience when on it ? I still don't like using it but will have to grin and bear it for 12 days out of 12 weeks. I was given this option ,or ablation or hysterectomy like you.

Hi dazned

I feel tired, can't think - anxiety - have been off work many times feel like I can't cope - all symptoms wen on progesterone.

What does ablation achieve ? Not heard of that as a solution.

Thanks for replying
