….we didn't know that £2,000 was missing and it would have been 'put down as missing money' if the till didn't add up at the end of the day ……… so a large Supermarket can 'lose' money regularly then

Not quite sure what you are referring to CLKD, but my son worked a lot of his student years in a supermarket and that would have been noticed.
Did you mean £2,000 or £2.000,000

On BBC internet news this afternoon.
Apparently on CCTV a cashier was seen clearing the till - none of those tube things to hand so money was left in a bag next to the till
……. the bag was picked up by mistake and the mistake wasn't found until the guy reached his house. He went back to Tesco who hadn't missed the bag

Cashier that did that will now be sacked. If tills are short there are all sorts of investigations and if it's a big enough amount dismissal follows. Silly sod has still lost his job

But the attitude of Management to tell the honest person that if tills don't tally it's put down as 'missing money' baffles me …….. I thought that 'every little helps'
but if the 'every little' disappears
I do wonder if it was left for someone else to pick up ……….

And suspicion immediately falls on the till operator.
Think they are trying just to smooth things over to be honest.
