Bloods back
« on: November 19, 2014, 09:58:41 AM »

Rung up the GP this morning for my bloods results.
They said one of them are back, and that's showing borderline, now I have to wait for a Dr to ring me to explain, I have no idea what this means as I don't really know what the tests actually are, the receptionist said they are waiting for another 2 results back, bloody scared now xx

Why-o-why do GP Surgeries allow receptionists to feed test results back to patients? A rhetorical question...  of course it's to do with receptionists being cheaper to employ than doctors or nurses.

Unfair on the patient and unfair on the receptionist.  So glad that at the veterinary practice where I work any clinical enquiries are passed to clinical staff for them to answer.

helen9813 - I hope you hear back from the GP soon with an explanation of all the results and a full explanation of the rationale for the tests (sorry, but nobody in the medical profession gets any of my bodily fluids without an explanation of what they are going to test for and why).  If you don't get the call, then I would suggest ringing again later today or making an appointment so you can be told in person.  If the types of tests and the reasons for doing them are not explained please be sure to ask if you want to know.

I agree Stellajane. Similar thing happened to me a while back. Told to see GP, who told me it was the good one which was high. However, they tend to look at it overall. I spent loads on cholesterol reducing drinks & it made virtually no difference. Started doing extra exercise & down it came.

Saying you have a borderline result isn't clever, especially as you don't know what is actually borderline. Hope you get to speak to GP soon so you can sort it out. Let us know how it goes.

Yes, my 'bad' cholesterol levels had gone up, but I had plenty of good cholesterol, which my GP said balanced it out, yet a consultant at the hospital tut tutted over it (not a specialist in this area though). I have brought my levels down to a desirable level by more exercise and weight loss and passed my mot in the spring with flying colours, but they didn't give a certificate!  ;)
