Antibiotics are not working!
« on: August 13, 2013, 06:29:30 PM »

I still have this UTI, am on trimethoprim 200mg twice a day, had 5 days now and still have UTI, still got all the symptoms, pelvic pain and peeing for England :'(

Surely with this dose of antibiotics it should be clearing now? have to go back to docs on Thursday but am really concerned that this isnt just UTI.

Anyone else have these tablets that didnt work?

Thanks.

How annoying but it happens quite a lot as some strains of bacteria are resistant to certain types of antibiotic. Your doc will probably test for resistance and put you on a different one. Was your sample sent away for testing?

Been there with antibiotics for various things, though usually manage to shift UTIs with Septrin.  It'll depend on which bacteria is causing your infection. Sounds like you will need something else.

Trimethoprim doesn't always work with UTIs, never did for me.

If it doesn't work you do need to get the right one.
If the samples do come back clear, then treatment for VA, topical oestrogen, would probably help

After you have it sorted think of trying d-mannose tablets. They are not cheap but really work. I have my 91year old mum on them. Between the tablets and also Vagifem her bladder health has improved. It's not perfect but she is very old but so much better than before.

I hope you feel better soon.

GP should have sent your sample for testing in the lab before giving antibiotics. This is why we are now having a problem with antibiotic resistant bacteria!!! The lab will confirm what type of bacteria is present and will recommend which antibiotic to give you.
It's that easy, if GPs would learn the process!!!

Hi K9love

hope the appointment with the drs goes well but I wanted to say that the Trimethoprim never worked for me ever I ended up having an antibiotic Nitrofutrin (not sure on the selling) this worked quickly, side effect makes your wee very yellow :) I now take 1 x50mg nightly to keep UTI's away but what is interesting my daughter suffers with uti's and she is the same they just don't work, so hopefully your GP will give you something else

Good luck  :)

At least the GP is following up your symptoms. How did you get on?
