Wise words from San and CLKD Scampi.

Mrs P, I agree with Suzie56 too. The commercialisation of Christmas causes so much unhappiness and stress, with people getting into debt etc. Modern society is so greedy now that people think that "things" make us happy. Did you hear about that incident in the US where a woman used pepper spray on other shoppers to get some bargain  price Xbox or whatever it was? And elsewhere someone pulled a gun! What a terrible indictment on our society.

Thank you ladies for all your hugs and support.  Please believe me - I didn't post my message to try to say 'my Christmas is worse than yours' - I just needed to get it off my chest  :-\  There are many reasons why people struggle with the festive season and all of them are valid (with the exception of 'can't afford to do it right' - spending time with family and friends costs nothing and is what the season should be about whether you call it Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah or anything else) - my moans are no worse than anyone else's and I'm by no means alone in what I'm going through.  My heart goes out to everyone struggling with the coming festivities xxx

 :bighug:Scampi.

Well said susie.Every year I invite family for boxing day because they expect it,this year I'm forgetting about pleasing people and not doing it.

Christmas Day is spent,just us.
No pressure,Christmas dinner at no set time, have whenever ready,Hubby, sons, daughter
and me round the table as a family.
Watch what we like on the telly, choccies all round-perfect!

No people pleasing for me this Christmas.
I don't need the pressure just a relaxing time. ;)

Sharing is what it's all about on here, Scampi. I certainly find that it helps to talk about things on here - I like to think that's one of the reasons that last Xmas wasn't as bad as I'd feared but I may well be on here again on the 25th  :'( Nice to know that I can though.
Do what you need to do, share what you need to share and don't worry about anyone on here might or might not think - we'll just be backing you anyway.  :bighug:

Scampi, I was so busy with my "the state of the world today" rant that I forgot to send you a hug too. Sorry. :bighug: :bighug:

Hugs to Scampi

Christmas is a difficult time for so many people... probably because we're conditioned to have high expectations? I'm a bit of a 'bah humbug' too, and hate writing cards etc. I cook the dinner these days, since mum died, and have dad and sister to stay with us. It still feels a bit of an obligation though and one year I'm just going to book a holiday and be done with it!!! Sigh....

On the otherhand, I LOVE the days between Christmas and New Year and generally go into hiding as recuperation  :)

Ooh no, don't agree with you there Grumpy! I hate that "limbo" time more than Christmas itself. Everything goes flat and there's an air of unreality I think, with so many people off work not knowing what to do with themselves. I can't wait for January 2nd when everything returns to normal.

One year we are going to go away before Christmas and come back in the New Year. Preferably to Florida.
It could be this year if my numbers come up tonight.

I really like the quiet time, Batty old bird, to close the curtains and keep the world out ;-). Or go for walks, or just take things easy and read. I don't feel guilty about doing not-a-lot at that time of the year! But I know what you mean about getting back to normal.... because it can get too much after a while. It's funny old time of year...  :-\

Ohhhh, littleminnie... Florida would be perfect  :D. Or anywhere with sunshine!

I love the idea of a New Year and a blank page to start again especially if it's been a tough time as I know it has for a few people this year.  Even if it's been a good year I still enjoy getting all the new calendars and diaries out and looking forward to the Spring.

As I work in a school "New Year" for me is September! I always feel a little glum at the end of the summer and Christmas terms: lots of excitement, big build-up then whoops! Down I go! Once I've been at home for a few hours I'm okay though.

The best "limbo" time I've spent was when we had a cheap deal for a few days in a holiday park on the south coast. It was so nice to be somewhere different, even if it was freezing!
