Agree it can be like rocket science working out what's going on in menopause & beyond, whether BV, thrush, VA . . . The characteristic thick discharge & intense itching of thrush we get in our younger years is not always present with thrush as we age. Misleadingly, a thin, watery discharge & soreness can be the only signs.
The oral capsule is the most convenient treatment but I was told by a GP after I had to keep repeating the dose, often less effective than treating the infection locally. I find the Canesten gel pessaries the most effective as the hard pessaries tend not to dissolve well as we age, though the gel is messy when it disperses. As Joaniepat says, treating with a weekly maintenance dose of something to maintain a favourable pH & deter infections taking hold is a good idea. I use Boots BV gel in single prefilled applicators once a week or so on a non-Vagifem night & again after a bleed which upsets pH.
Hope you manage to get it sorted.
