It would be great if everyone who's had a poor experience with a private provider could leave an online review (can be done anonymously) with details of what went wrong.

This can be done either on the clinic's website or somewhere like trust pilot or iwantgreatcare.

These are gold for people trying to choose a private specialist.

I did this once for a cardiologist and because I had complained, the NHS couldn't subsequently allocate me to that consultant.

This made the difference between me getting a pacemaker, which has been absolutely life changing, in helping me to sit up without fainting and live an active and fulfilling life, and being denied it, as this particular individual was against it.

Sorry that you had that experience. You're right. This is a service, like any other, and reviews help others save their hard earned for people who really can help. I've not had personal experience of a meno consultant, but it honestly sounds like the meno equivalent of a mortgage adviser. Someone who doesn't have indepth knowledge or experience, but just fills in a questionaire on your behalf, tells you the answer some computer has generated and charges you for the experience. In a few years time it'll be DIY for a prescription and a quick review with a pharmacist (who is probably more knowledgeable!)

Lico, for your physical vulval symptoms you probably need ideally a vulval dermatologist. I did not know that any such specialised thing existed but I found some women recommending them on another forum and jotted them down. These people came highly recommended:

Claire Fuller at London Bridge - clinic is at the Shard, right next to London Bridge station.

Fiona Lewis - Maidenhead, Berkshire

Victoria Swale

Google them and see what you think. They are all private vulval dermatologists. Then you probably need a private menopause doctor for the systemic HRT and progesterone situation. I like the Newson Clinic but not all the doctors there. They have a ton and it all depends on who you see. I'm seeing Dr Jane Robertson there at the moment and she is very good.

Thank you for replying.

Getting-Old- yes, you are totally right. I am not sure why I did not question her. I had a niggling feeling about it all but did not act on it. I thought that it was me being difficult! You might right regarding daily target for number of patients and medication refill; never thought about this

joziel : re Vulval dermatologist- thank you for this. I was diagnosed many years ago with lichen sclerosus many years ago by a vulval dermatologist who , unfortunately, moved to Edinburgh (can give the name if needed by Scottish ladies). She was excellent. I 'was followed' by one of the ladies you mentioned. It was again cursory look and just renewal of prescription-not great. The last straw was in February when she could not identify whether Lichen active or dormant and could not identify a Bowen lesion. I have decided to go NHS for this because it is a lifelong skin condition which needs to be checked on a yearly basis.

Following some ladies' advice on these boards, I went to a walk-in pathology laboratory that opened recently for my endicrology bloods. Came back yesterday at 55 oestrogen with three pumps Oestroge and 27.4 Vitamin D l!!! Last year it was circa 200 and above 30. I am not sure what happened since last year except that I started applying it to inner thigh and outer thigh. Two pumps on same thigh .. Will look around for a reasonably priced ultrasound. Very much DIY from now on. I now need to find someone competent with menopause treatment because I was prescribed HRT for my bones!!! I will look up Dr. Jane Robertson.

online reviews would be great.

Thank you

Well I was on 12 pumps of Oestrogel with only 320pmol serum estradiol. Which isn't enough to get rid of my night time symptoms although they were better than on lower doses.

We are trying to get my to 450-650pmol but I don't absorb well so this is all getting a bit ridiculous now.

Why don't you increase your gel at least to 4 pumps seeing that's still a licensed dose. I think inner thigh absorbs better than outer as the skin is thinner and the femoral artery runs through there.
