Tender points
« on: July 09, 2024, 06:33:18 AM »

I’m 58 and no periods since Dec 2023 on estrogel and Utrogestan.
I’m hypermobile in some joints and have POTS.
For the last few years as I’m assuming my estrogen is depleting, I’m experiencing a number of tendinitis issues and occasionally have tended points which feel knotty and often culminate in small bruises. My sister and mum both developed post menopausal RA and I’ve been tested but was told all ok.
Don’t think it’s fibromyalgia but at a loss what else it could be.
Anyone had anything similar? I’ve mentioned the tendinitis thing to the GP to be met with the usual response 😑 currently got Achilles tendinitis which I’ve had for a year so I’m keen to get to the bottom of things!

Of course you need to sort this!  [Remind me what POTS might be  :-\]

Could you refer to a physiotherapist for advice on gentle exercises?  It is known that carpal tunnel syndrome may present when women are pregnant which disappears after delivery.  A lost of oestrogen may cause laxity of muscles = aches and pains.

Let us know!

Yes POTS is Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome - basically I'm fainty  ;D and my bp drops when I stand up.  I take meds to keep it stable. Always worse during hormonal changes - puberty, throughout my 20's particularly bad, and pregnancies weren't too bad as my bp was a bit higher.
I see a physio for the Achilles issue (I've also had x2 lots of gluteal tendinitis) and he's recommended exercises.  My POTS specialist said I need to be doing strength training, and the physio also recommended this so I do x2 gym sessions and pilates once a week.
The places where I used to be pretty flexible are now stiff (the curse of hypermobility as you get older), and I'm 100% sure that all these things are linked.
The tender points have come and gone throughout my menopause (going on for around 15 years now...) but no one seems to know how to deal with them or the recurrent tendinitis issues I'm getting.

U could offer yourself up to a Research Student ;-)

Similar to when my Wisdom teeth sockets ached every month, for 10+ years after removal!

MayB put into the search words like : Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome : research studies/groups

Your Physiotherapist mayB able to point you in the right direction ......... or search on line for Research Peer Reviewed Papers.  U probably won't be able to understand them  ;D but they should give authors to contact.  Do make sure who sponsored any research though ;-)
