Effective Ovestin alternative?
« on: July 04, 2024, 09:07:29 PM »

I did try a search here but maybe I haven't entered the right thing.  I've been given the
re - labed version and it really is not the same
I'm finding external discomfort is starting to come back. The GP, pharmacist and meno specialist insist it is, but as soon as I first used it I could tell the texture isn't the same.
Have any of you switched over to an alternative that is as effective?

Ovestin is now called Estriol 1mg/g and the only change is the name. Have you been given something else?

There is no alternative as we don’t have estradiol cream in the UK which to me would be the natural next thing to try.
I’m still using Ovestin tubes but have Estriol 1mg/g to use next will post if I find a difference.
Sorry you have found it different but where to go next ?

Well I was sure (but you know, brain fog and all) that I'd read here that the Estriol isn't the same in spite of the powers that be saying it is. I can't find that thread though.
So yes, I have been given Estriol but unless something else is going on, it doesn't seem as effective which is what I'm also sure I read elsewhere others have said, if that makes sense.
However,  I would not be surprised to find I'm incorrect and imagining what I read  ;D

There is a thread somewhere on the name change if you are thinking of that.
All I can suggest is that you use extra estriol/apply more often if you have the scope to do that as what else can anyone do ?
I just cant understand why we don’t have estradiol cream in this country ?

Are you perhaps thinking about Vagifem vs Vagirux, lots on here not happy being changed to Vagirux and complain its not the same, asking to go back to Vagifem.

I haven't read here as yet about problems with Estriol, that was just a name change from Ovestin.

There is very probably confusion on my part but I was reading the thread with interest because I was wondering when I would get prescribed estriol and I was sure ladies were saying it isn't the same.
I am using more as the special agreed I could apply more often, but it just doesn't seem to be as effective.
I don't know, unless I can find the thread, and I can't,  I'll never know. Now I'm wondering if I'm imagining the whole thing!!

Im using estriol after having used Ovestin and have found no difference at all. I dont find any difference between Vagifem and the other brands either. They all have the same effect.

What strength is your new cream?

Ovestin is 0.1% estriol.

There is an estriol cream that is 0.01%.

This would explain the lack of effectiveness if you have the latter.
