Utrogestan and digestion
« on: July 02, 2024, 10:50:28 AM »

Hi everyone
I've been on estradot patches and Utrogestan tablets at bedtime for around 3 months now.
Been feeling better in myself apart from awful joint pains.
The problem I have is my digestive system is seriously sluggish .
The only thing that's changed is the Utrogestan tablets,I had no problem before I took them
My diet is really good, loads of fruit, veg ,pulses, etc
Too much information I know but it's like rabbit poo!
I end up so bloated and uncomfortable.
It's driving me mad.
Doc just said to take lactulose etc to help but if this is long term then not keen on that.
She said she wouldn't recommend taking it vaginally long term.
Anyone else had issues with Utrogestan.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Caroline,

Many women find that Utro makes us bloated and constipated.

I did find kiwis helped until I are so many that I developed an allergy.

I only cope with utro because I take it sequentially and therefore have 16 days with normal bodily function.

You could try vaginally, lots of us take it long term like this... but unfortunately for me it didn't help my digestion.

May I ask how if you are peri? If so might be worth trying sequential. Even if meno, I do believe some women continue with sequential (but I'm no expert)

Good luck x

I took utrogestan sequentially (always vaginally) and it always caused constipation and bloating, which eased at the end of the 12 days. It is also dehydrating so make sure you are drinking plenty to keep everything lubricated.

Hi
Thanks for your reply,
I'm a year in August with no periods at all.
I was on everol conti when I was peri but swapped to this regime as everol conti just wasn't working aswell anymore.
I feel like Utrogestan makes everything feel sluggish, similar to PMT .
I used to get very bloated and constipated before a period but as soon as it started I was fine again.
This is a bit like PMT bloat but all the time!!
My energy isn't great either and my oomf for doing stuff has slowed right down too.
I mostly went on HRT for horrific anxiety and joint pain.
Joint pain is still there but anxiety is much better.
It seems we can't have the good without the bad in all this menopause stuff!!

It's likely the drop in progrsterone when you got your period that eased things off. I'd really suggest trying a regime where you don't have to take progesterone all month long.

Yes I think I'll go back to doc and see what's available.
Such a mine field all this but thanks for your help and even knowing its "normal " helps! X
