Sore tongue
« on: June 26, 2024, 03:33:56 PM »

Hi ladies.

Looking for some advice please.

My tongue has been sore for months. Swabs for thrush keeps coming back negative, but they keep giving me nystatin & fluconazole. I've taken flucozanole for 4 days now this time and mouth looks worse, its given me a big blister on lip and I now have rash on stomach now too from taking it. So I can' taking anymore of it.

My mouth goes really white especially when I don't drink and there is green on side of tongue which never goes and is the sore part. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice please, thank you.

Off to your dental practice!    Did U go after it was suggested on your previous thread?

It may B reaction to too many medications which are killing normal oral flora.  I would be eating LIVE yoghurt regularly which will help the digestive tract from top to bottom.  Have U tried 'bonjela' on the sore area and which colour green?

Thank you for your message CLKD. Can a dentist help with tongue problems?

I use biotene for dry mouth at night and eat live yoghurt every day.

As CLKD says, go see your dentist. I'd say a dentist is probably more able to help with tongue problems than a doctor.

Dentists are trained to look for oral cancers whereas GPs probably do not have as much experience.  However your GP should now be referring you on.

Aside from oral cancer, dentists know their way around the soft tissue of the mouth. If it is worse when you don't drink it could be dry mouth due to menopause or possibly because of other medication you are taking. Do you take an antidepressant by any chance?
Do you suffer from reflux or silent reflux at all? That can impact the tongue too.
Do you have any rough or sharp teeth nearby, perhaps from an old filling that is rubbing and not healing?
Loads of simple things it could be and a dentist really would be your best bet in first instance.

Perhaps the Biotene is causing irritation, try without for a couple of nights?
