Testosterone?
« on: June 15, 2024, 09:25:23 AM »

Hi everyone,
I am think of trying T again, mainly for drive and energy. my libido seems directly related to oestrogen in my case, so my estrodot has hugely help with that. ;)
I have tried twice with not great results.
First time with Androfem, within a week I had severe tiredness and brain fog, I literally could not function it was so bad. I stopped the androfem and it went away.
I wasn’t properly convinced it was that so tried again a few months later with a smaller amount and the same thing happened, I I know it was that.
Roll on a couple of years and I tried testogel, within a week I was a tearful mess! Sooo emotional and I couldn’t tie that in with anything else so I stopped again.
My energy and general mojo is so low though, ( I also suffer from blocked memolian glands/dry eyes) so I’m wondering whether I should try again.
Has anyone else had responses like mine to various preparations or am I just weird?!
I am 60, use estrodot 25 + 37.5 and intermittent Cyclogest with regular ultrasounds as I struggle massively with progesterone.
Thank you in advance :)
NOTE: I’ve also posted this in the Testosterone here we go thread in Private Lives but thought it may go unseen :)

I think if you have tried testosterone three times with such unpleasant effects and don't even have issues with libido, there is probably not much mileage in trying it again.

What about dhea as an alternative? That's what I take (due to cost and compatibility with my oral contraceptive pill) and it really helps me, without any side effects.

Low energy has many causes and as libido is fine I'd recommend getting your testosterone levels tested before you try again. Loss of testosterone doesn't necessarily happen at the same time as oestrogen and you might find you don't need any more. If you do try it again you could see if you're any better with tostran though as it comes on a pump it might not be easy to measure a smaller dose.

Hi there

I am absolutely in the same boat with testosterone. Tried it for 6 weeks last year and had to stop. Tiredness and feeling awful. Almost suicidal tbh.

Decided I could try again 3 weeks ago......and again I've had to come off it. I'm just looking for some ommpphh really but it's clear testosterone just isn't for me. I'm so glad - if that's the right word here - that someone else reports the same as so many seem to do well on it. I felt great for about 2 days in the first week but its went rapidly down hill since.

I do need tweaking in my thyroid meds so hoping that will help give me a boost. But yes  testosterone is apparently not the magic bullet for me.

I'm 46 and on 1.5 sachets of Sandrena and cyclical progesterone days 14 - 26.

Thank you for your helpful replies ladies :) I think you’re right, having tried 3 times I suppose it’s not for me. I guess I was hoping for that magic bullet miracle!
I will look into DHEA bombsh3ll.
I did have my T levels checked recently and they were low but not off the scale so it’s probably not completely necessary for me.
Moog77, well I’m glad it’s not just me that it affects like that ;)
Sorry that it didn’t suit you either but comforting to know I’m not alone. I hope you get some balance with your thyroid meds, I know this can be tricky too :/
I hope we both find our oomph!
Thanks again xx

Me too.

I am hypothyroid, and have occasional Afib. I am on T3 only and read T can help Afib.  Tests showed I was low in T.

I have been taking T since October and initially was great for being able to breath again when running and stamina which is what I wanted too. In about February started to get really tired.

Was puzzling about needing more T3 or ... ? Tried increasing t3  but still tired when over range. Tested other hormones again and now T looking high so read up about it.

Seems  T3 binds to thyroid binding globulin (TBG) testosterone to SHBG and cortisol to CBG but there is some crossover between testosterone on CBG.

Tried testing cortisol levels and found low in serum ( free and bound) and over top high in saliva ( free only). Also DHEA on floor as has been for some years. One of main symptoms of cortisol being wrong is tiredness.

Trying to get my head around that and struggling. But think it means that overall I have low cortisol and that testosterone was maybe taking up some of the CBG leaving more too much free cortisol?

In terms of treatment, I think it means the testerone is ok but need to fix cortisol first. I have added DHEA and pregnenolone for last few weeks and held off T for a while, will reintroduce slowly as think it is worthwhile in long run.

Not sure if any of that helps or makes sense? Anyone understanding this area - would welcome the input
