So so fed up
« on: June 07, 2024, 03:57:03 PM »

Hi guys,
I’m so fed up. So I’m 48 and am trying desperately to start HRT (multiple times now) because of irritability, insomnia, itching, flushes,
Very Heavy periods, anxiety.. you name it.. I seem to have it.
Various failed attempts with nhs led me to pay privately for help as every time i started the Everol 50
I started bleeding. I have had a mirena in place since October. That stopped the flooding but I’ve probably had about 3 weeks since then without some bleeding.. plus my normal periods.
Private specialist prescribed me provera to take alongside my mirena and my patch 50.. was all going so well for a week and now I’m bleeding again.. period bleeding.. not spotting.. spoke to specialist again and she has now prescribed be Zoely.. I just can’t seem to catch a break with this and feel like my only option is a hysterectomy. Before mirena I’d be struggling with floods for 8 years.. majorly pissed off now. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve been referred for tests on womb. Last Pap test was negative
TIA xx

Hi Kelloggs,

Sorry to hear about you struggling with your symptoms. Did you try just to have the Mirena and not to add something else? You had heavy periods, it means your estrogen level is enough, but progesterone is too low. Adding any estrogen on top may make things worse.

Thank you for responding.. ah ok that does make sense.. heavy periods is high oestrogen?
Yes, I tried mirena alone and didn’t help flooding but bled pretty much constantly for 7/8 months.. spotting and heavier bleeds.. not flooding though.
Started brilliantly with mirena in terms of mood, felt loads calmer and then gradually became more and more anxious.. driving myself mad with health issues.. and anything to do with family.. work..
perhaps the combined pill with my mirena might be all I need at the moment do you think?

Have you had a scan to see if they can find a reason for it such as fibroids?

Not necessarily high estrogen, too low progesterone which is not able to opposite estrogen, causes heavy and irregular periods. Mirena usually is pretty good in sorting out the problem. But you mentioned you have polyp, in some cases polyps can cause heavy bleeding too.

Rest of the symptoms are typical peri meno symptoms, but to find the right type of HRT may be tricky due to very unique nature of everybody’s case.

Absolutely.. I’ve heard that having Polyps removed doesn’t always sort the problem or more grow back quickly so I’ve opted for a ‘monitor’ situ.. but wondering if I should get it cut out to eliminate that as the problem..: it’s all such a headache isn’t it? I feel like I’ve just wasted money on private advice because it didn’t help either.. 🥲

Nothing is wasted because it has allowed you to get different opinions.  My Gynae wanted to remove my polyp ASAP - but there was no need because at peri it shrunk all on its own  ::).  It bled on contact otherwise, no problems.

Which symptom would you like to ease first?

Unfortunately I have the same experience and I wish I spent my money on something more useful than private meno specialist. I worked out what my problem  was myself eventually and that costed me nothing. Privately you can only get prescription for not licensed for NHS medications or doses, but don’t expect from them more than that.

My biggest issue is the bleeding. It’s literally ruining my life. After 8 years of flooding, I finally got a coil fitted last October.. I’ve had probably 3/4 bleed free weeks since then.. every time I try oestrogen even with Provera.. a week goes by and wham.. bleeding again.. I’ve been prescribed Zoely.. I don’t particularly want to be on the pill as I don’t consider it real hrt.. but I just want a break from the bleeding. Xx

Sometimes we have to take medication to ease symptoms.  To kick start the body back to some kind of routine.
