Is there anything I can do about this?

My GP is fecking useless. Every question about HRT she doesn't know the answer, she won't prescribe anything off label either.

So she told me last September she was referring me to the HRT clinic.

I've phoned a couple of times and been told it's a long list, don't worry that I've not heard anything.

Today I got more proactive after the local news last night did a feature on the non referral of patients happening all the time.

Guess what? I've spoken to several offices this morning and one thing is for certain, I'm definitely not on their waiting list.

EIGHT MONTHS OF WAITING AND I'M NOT EVEN ON THE FECKING LIST

My GP is in tomorrow, I bet she won't want to talk to me!

Y'know only last week I was booked in for a blood test. I asked them to double then triple check why I needed another blood test and they eventually told me the test had been done two weeks ago, just the results were slow coming back, no new bloods needed.
I was sent on my way untouched, like I'd nothing better to do with my morning.

That's appalling but not surprising judging by some of the bad experiences my sister has had in the last few years.  She gets messed about with blood tests for her thyroid and her doctor is all over the place and doesn't know what she's doing - she has never met the doctor face to face.

It's important that you get the help you need so I don't think you have any choice other than to book an appointment with a private menopause specialist.  It will cost you about £300 but if it means you get the help you need then it's money well spent.

You say you have a useless GP and the menopause clinic will have a very long waiting list (probably about a year) so I would bail out now, even if it means bunging it on a credit card.

I second what Mary G has said. Plus then ask the private place to write to your GP and ask them to prescribe it under a shared care agreement so you don't have to pay for the medication.

Best money I spend is going to the Newson Clinic for my HRT.

There's no way a GP would have approved the 11 pumps of gel I'm currently on, but with a letter from the Newson Clinic doctor it suddenly becomes possible.... at least I don't have to pay for estrogen or progesterone.

And I can't get testosterone from my GP on the NHS, so I have to get that privately through Newson.

It's worth every penny.

  • changes can be scary, even when we want them

Agree: if U are able to pay for an initial consult and treatment regime then go for it.   No point having money in the bank and being miserable!

If you can't stretch your credit card then ring the different Menopause Clinics to see if they have a short-notice appt system if someone cancels. I would also be speaking to my Practice Manager to make sure she/he is aware of this appalling lack of treatment and consideration.  You would get better treatment at the Vet Surgery  >:(

I am tamping on your behalf!  I would consider this to be medical negligence!

I can't help re the hrt, but I can relate to not being on the waiting list.

A few years ago I was referred for something and was told it would be X amount of months before I  would ĥear anything and get an appointment.

The time came and I hadn't received my appointment through so rang up and I wasn't on the list. I was fuming, but they said there was nothing they could do, so I had to go on the list Again!!

Now, everytime I get a referral, for anything, I always ring up and get them to check they've received the referral and I'm definitely on the list.

I know this won't help now, but will help for any future referrals.
