Pills to patches, hoping for advice
« on: May 07, 2024, 11:09:01 AM »

Hi all, hoping for some help. I’ve been on high dose elleste solo 6mg and mirena for years. GP wants me to change to Evorel 100 as patches safer than tablets but I am worried as looks to me I will be dropping my dose by a third. Really don’t want the horrific anxiety and hopelessness to return. It took years and years to become stable.
GP said I should absorb more from the patches than tablets because not going through my liver first but I am very scared of the change.
I do have some tablets left so wondering if I should start the patches but also a tablet and then gradually reduce the tablet so it’s not such a shock to my system. Can’t get another appointment to discuss with GP.
Feeling a bit desperate really, hope someone can advise with similar experience

It is always crap to have to change products, it's why I am now on 10 pumps of gel...  ::)

But sometimes you have to bite the bullet and accept it will take a while to figure out.

On the other hand if you don't have any risk factors for clots and if you are not too old, you should be able to stay on oral HRT if you are doing well on it...

Hi Joziel
Thanks for the reply, I was 60 in January, hence the change.
I think it’s to do with more risk of clots as you get older with tablets

10 pumps Joziel, wow!! How do you manage to get all that absorbed into your skin, or do you do it throughout the day? Did your GP prescribe that or a specialist? Sorry for all the questions.

As said, I just do 5 pumps in the AM and 5 in the PM. It's very possible to get 4 pumps around your thigh and then I put one on my butt cheek. I don't really want to put it on my upper arms due to risk of contaminating veins for blood draws and proximity to boobs.

My Newson doctor prescribed it and wrote a letter (as they always do) which I took a copy of to my GP, who is happy to prescribe it too. My GP won't prescribe testosterone though, I have to get that privately through Newson.
