Travelling with oestrogel and androfeme
« on: April 27, 2024, 09:36:54 AM »

Hello ladies,
I have an urgent question please…
Travelling tonight on Ryanair with only cabin luggage.

Need to take my bottle of estrogel and the androfeme crème. I’ve been on both for ages just didn’t think about organising a doctor’s letter. Both products have the original label on the box saying it’s prescription medicine.
Q1: will this be enough at the airport? I’m flying to Europe
Q2: all prescriptions have my married name on them but passport is in my maiden name. Will this be enough for airport security ? I am European and the purpose of my visit is to start the long process of changing my passport to my married name so I have my marriage certificate etc.
Q3: I have 5 prescriptions meds to take with me - estrogel, androfeme, also vaginal vagirux tablets, but also steroid nasal spray and antihistamine tablets both for hayfever. These will never fit into one of those little plastic zippy bags, especially due to original boxes. Can I use a larger plastic zippy bag?

Thank you all sooo much in advance
A xx

Hi

It won’t be a problem if you have the box showing your name and pharmacy. I pop it in a clear sandwich bag separate from my other liquids.

I’ve travelled to USA doing this and they may take it away to scan, but never had issues with it being taken off me.

Best wishes

Thank you ladies for your replies. I can’t open the page on Balance app, it seems to be frozen so can’t read all of it. It must be a bug as it’s been the case for a while and restarting my phone doesn’t fix it.

What if the medicines can’t fit in the 20x20cm bag? It’s impossible due to their size to fit all 5 of mine into one bag. Can I have more than one bag?

Thank you 🙏 xx

I'm here doing the same  for a flight tomorrow.  I've never had a problem with medicines before,  in or out of their packaging but never taken estrogen.  I'm only taking underneath the seat luggage too, can't fit it all in,   if I take anything out if my bag I'll be walking around half naked.

Don’t worry if it won’t fit in the size bags advised, just pop it in a clear sandwich bag.

They can’t take it off you it’s medical purposes you have it.

When I first travelled with my HRT I went from a small local airport and they took the medicine away to look at, I explained to the staff member it was HRT and I needed it for my mental wellbeing, and for my husband’s sake too, if he wanted to enjoy his holiday with me.

They found that highly amusing, but so true.

Do not worry about it, you will be fine.

Have a safe trip.

I've taken it on board as long as you have the pharmacist label on it. They can go in a different bag so aren't included in your allowance

Thank you ladies for all your replies, I am feeling reassured by your experiences. I promise I’ll try to stop stressing and next time I’ll find out these things sooner xxx

The tablets don't need to be in a bag at all.

Hi, I just came on here to ask a similar question - I’d heard that it’s good to have the prescription with you but wondering if it’s ok to have the prescription on the nhs app on the phone or if need a printed copy.

For my Testogel sachet I keep it in a little box with a clip - I understand it’s important for no one else to touch it - so do I need to tell security staff that???

Hello ladies
Just thought I’d update you. I’ve just been through airport security and waiting for gate announcement. The security checks are very thorough and they sure picked on my HRT! Took estrogel bottle out of the box and through a special machine, then same with androfeme. Also had to explain my different name as due to getting married and they asked if I could show them something to prove that, so good job I had my driving licence.
For those who use the little jewellery scales to measure the dose, i did have it in my handbag so that was taken out with phone for the usual electronics check but all went through. Phew!
Thank you all for your words of reassurance
