Has anyone used vagifem without the applicator
« on: April 08, 2024, 08:01:41 AM »

I am a couple of months into using vagifem but still lots of soreness. Last night when I inserted pessary using the applicator it was difficult and I’ve had some very light spotting. It’s also painful to urinate this morning.
Just wondering if I could get the pessary out of the applicator and insert myself ? Might be less painful. Thanks

Of course, give it a try and mayB don't insert too far into the vagina .   Spotting may well be the very thin skin tearing so gently is the way to go.  Or you could ask for 'ovestin' which is a cream delivered by applicator so is suitable to put on the end of the finger.

No need to use the applicator and as mentioned you don't need to go high with placing the pessary.
Sometimes my muscles tense up and I end up having to use my finger to push the pessary in further.

Thank you so much for quick replies.
I’m annoyed with myself because the soreness is now making urinating very sore today and I’m worried about it kickstarting another uti.
Anyway fingers crossed won’t come to that.

Just a thought, sometimes Vagifem is not enough and using Ovestin on the outside might help you, along with a moisturiser. That's what works for me.
The pessary doesn't always reach the outside area which is where most of the discomfort takes place, doing it this way a tube will last 3 to 4 months as you just smear a little on the outside.

It isn't an infection.  It's dryness and skin thinning which causes similar symptoms, VA mimics urine infection-type symptoms really really well  >:(

I use KY Jelly when necessary, others find 'yes' or 'sylc' products help.

Have you tried putting some lube on the applicator? I find the opening can be a bit sharp. I use the YES water-based lube and put a squirt on the applicator....
