Doubled the dose -yay
« on: March 20, 2024, 09:10:19 PM »

It is a long ole time since I posted here!
At 54 , been on here for about 6 years. All going well and was settled on Femeston sequi 2/10 for years , with the addition of some ‘covert’ extra oestrogen patches……
Then decided I’d done my time with withdrawal bleeds and last September went on Femeston CONTI 1/.5 with covert patches, but of course that dropped me a mg of oestrogen, sooooo in discussion with my Gp and him with meno clinic, they came up with ‘take two’ so I did. So 1mg/.5 x2
6 months on still doing it, spotting has now stopped and I am feeling good, no symptoms, no bleeds, no sweats. How long GP asks do I plan on taking it. My answer= death or 90 years.whichever comes first!
Reason for posting is - does anyone else do this regime, is it some ‘new’ idea an I the Guinea pig or is it a routine ‘thing’
Thanx

Hi Sgtv...

Thanks for the update. Hopefully someone who does use this regime will come along. I don't think it's that common but doubling up and halving various HRT types is regularly prescribed off-licence by docs who feel able to - in your case in consulatation with specialist.

If you can tolerate the double dose of progestogen in order to get the right dose of oestrogen then great! It is strange that they don't make a higher dose of Femoston for post-menopausal women anyway.....but probably commercial reasons  - which seems to be the usual explanation.

The only thing is that once you reach 60 ish the general advice is to change to transdermal HRT as being associated with lower cardio-vascular/stroke risk, but this will I imagine depend on your other personal risk factors health-wise, and if the menopause clinic is happy to prescribe and monitor your general health then presumably this should be OK in principle.

I presume you don't add extra oestrogen patches now your tablet dose has increased?

Hi Hurdity,
Thanx for coming back. Yes, I think this regime is blooming brilliant. I’ve always been a ‘funny’ kinda gal with progesterone- many, over the years have turned my brain into an anxious spaghetti mess, so I’ve ’learned my lesson and don’t’stick with ‘ stuff that drives me mad (: dydrogestone is about the only one I get on with and I feel good.
As for the ‘covert’ oestrogen patches…….. well, now I can’t help accidentally falling on one……….
So, yep still using them, but cutting down so now ‘just’ 1 100mcg once a week.  I get screened for everything under the sun, like endometrium, cholesterol, boobs and any other parts of interest and they are all behaving for now. I kinda think sometimes, we’ll most of the time - who knows what the future holds and I have to live now- so either I’m a meno ‘trailblazer’ or the Guinea pig either way life is good.
