PLEASE HELP HRT mess and really down
« on: March 10, 2024, 05:36:07 PM »

Hey guys,

I’ve posted loads over the past few days but I’m struggling.
I’m 39, still having regular periods and started Evorel 50mcg patch in August.
All was fine - then night sweats came back.
Dr added gel, then took away patches. Tried 75 Evorel but was really foggy.

So now I’m doing 3 pumps a day (specialist said 4 pumps) but it makes me feel really anxious…
I take utrogeston 100mg continuous (as felt it helped with mood).

I don’t know what to do, I’m really overwhelmed, anxious and feel down!
I’m already on loads of other meds so I really don’t need this. Starting to wish I’d never started.

Thanks for helping x

It's a bit Trial and Error initially.  MayB 50 wasn't enough, 75 far too much.  It's a HUGE jump ! which GPs don't seem to realise  >:(

I would ask for both 50 and 75 so that you can mix and match, I believe that some cut patches to accommodate the effect on the body.  MayB put the product name/s into the search box: individually : and read the threads.  Make notes ;-)

3 pumps might be too much - did U begin on 1 and work up, varying it according to your bodies reaction?  As with a lot of medications, we need to take control so that we can get benefit with less nasty side effects.

Don't give up.

Hi,
Based on my own experience, I'd make small incremental changes.
I've always been told by my Meno doctor to go up or down slowly and give it some time.
You might want to double-check whether continuous utrogestan is right for you, I thought you had to be further into peri  :o

Is 75 from 50 a big jump? I went straight to 50?
She wants me on 100 on the gel (she said that’s what’s needed at my age).
I prefer the patches. I think im going to go back to 75 patch and be persistent? What do you think?

She wants me on the Mirena coil too?

It is your body so you can adjust the patches or gel to what suits you.  GPs don't have a handle on how huge jumps in HRT can affect the body which is why ladies do cut patches into bits as top ups to i.e. 25.

Yes, I get it. I just panic that I’ve been on 75 for a few months, is it wise decreasing?

If the regime is making you ill ....... mayB decrease slowly then have 24 hours without B4 beginning on a low dose ...... put the regime into the search box to see how others have coped.

Hi

If you were having regular periods before starting HRT, then you're not strictly peri-menopausal according to the medical definition, though hormones do start to go awry in the late reproductive phase, as it is called - presumably in your case causing night sweats?

That being the case have you thought of the contraceptive pill? There are a couple that contain bio-identical estradiol - same as in our bodies and in the patches and gels. QLAIRA  and ZOELY. They provide replacement oestrogen but suppress the cycle so you won't get these fluctuations that are causing you problems. HRT is supposed to cushion you from the dramatic falls in oestrogen that can occur in the second half/towards the end of the cycle but maybe in your case if your cycle is strong you're getting too much at mid-point?

Oestrogen should not cause foggy head - quite the opposite in fact, so maybe something else was causing that. Continuous progesterone can lead to foggy head ( which is why I only take it cyclically), and low oestrogen during peri-menopause.

Not quite clear about what you're saying about oestrogen dose, but I use a cut-down 75 mcg patch to give approx 62.5 mcg. Going from 50 mcg to 75 mcg is not a big jump per se, especially if you are still having your own cycle because oestrogen levels go way higher than this, but it is a big jump in women who are sensitive - though usually it will be in women who are late peri or post-menopause with very little of their own oestrogen.

Hope you manage to sort this!
