Spotting and vagifem
« on: February 28, 2024, 09:12:39 PM »

I am post menopause 64 and I am on everol conti patch and just recently added an extra 25 oestrogen patch.

I have also just recently started on vagifem pessaries having done the two week loading dose and now reduced to twice weekly.

I have just started spotting with a little blood along with a slight headache.

Is this a side effect of vagifem?
I don’t have any pain in my tummy.
Is it anything to do with the dose being reduced to twice a week?

Anyone experience this ? Any advice please 🙏

I would consider it more likely that the upping of the oestrogen patch to be the culprit.

Is twice a week enough to keep VA symptoms comfortable.

I've had blood spotting once on vagifem after 4 months. I've recently had a small bleed again after 5 months of increasing the frequency. I'm not on any other HRT

In your case, the spotting is more likely to be down to the extra patch rather than the Vagifem. Any change in your dosage of systemic HRT can take up to 3 months to settle down. Maybe you would be better off with a 75 mcg oestrogen only patch and a separate progesterone, as the combined patch only contains the right amount of progestogen for 50 mcg of E.
