Bleeding on Mirena coil
« on: February 16, 2024, 09:48:57 AM »

Hi, had coil fitted last week following hysteroscopy. Had no bleeding for past 4 years as had implant for 3 and after removal no bleeding for another 9 months then cyclical bleeding on Everol Sequi. I guess my question is if I’m menopausal or post menopausal is it still normal to bleed with the coil and when is it not normal? I had light spotting for a few days then stopped and now back again. How long will this last for? Is it normal? When does it become abnormal? Waiting on results of biopsy due to thickened lining but all looked fine during hysteroscopy

I had my first Mirena coil fitted when one year post meno and I had 4.5 months of daily spotting. I was told by GP that was normal. My second one which I had last year only gave me a few days spotting.

I got the coil nearly a year ago.  I bled for 4 weeks after getting it in - gradually getting lighter as the days went on.  I still get a period every month, though its a lot lighter than it used to be.  I had hoped they'd stop altogether but no such luck so far  :(

It isn't unusual, you can get it for up to 6 months on any new conti regime.

I had a mirena fitted at the start of December and I’m still bleeding most days. I had a week where is stopped and I was hopeful but back to bleeding again! I would say it’s heavier than spotting but not as heavy as a period. It is slowly getting less though I think! I feel like I should take our shares in panty liners! Dr has told me this is quite normal and should stop by 6 months.

Hope yours stops soon!!
