Changing from Evoral 75 + Norestherone to evoral conti?
« on: February 01, 2024, 11:08:55 AM »

Has anyone done this?

I was on evoral conti, fine for years

After a private appt I went on to evoral 75 plus noresithone & had bleeding/spotting (I have no ovaries)

went back onto evoral conti (after a scan with a normal lining thickness) and I have been bleeding ever since the scan

GP thinks its normal to bleed after a scan and that its normal to bleed when you start Evoral Conti (but its the same drugs as I was on anyway)

For how long were you on the stronger dose?

Evorel conti contains norethisterone, enough for the oestrogen in the patch and I've read a lot of women being given extra oestrogen on top of Evorel conti without any extra norethisterone. Your private doctor has been cautious and matched the two to keep you extra safe.
In theory only the dose changed and not the medicine, but I found Evorel Conti effective while Evorel 50 patches with another progestin were not effective at all, it was the same dose, same brand, they didn't work!

You don't say why you had the private appointment, what was the problem on Evorel Conti that make you get another opinion?

My best guess as to why you're bleeding is that you didn't absorb Evorel 75 as well as you absorbed Evorel Conti. I certainly didn't absorb them the same, maybe the norethisterone helps the body absorb the oestrogen, who can know?

It ought to settle down after a few weeks, frustrating as it all is to be thrown back into all sorts of symptoms you'd been free of before they changed anything!

I didn't bleed after my scan btw, but my "period" started two days later and was heavier than usual, so maybe something in what your GP says.

I'm not supposed to have periods, that's why I did the "".
I'm three years post menopause, likely with no ovarian function according to the specialist, yet I bleed every four weeks on all continuous regimens. I asked the top gynae here why, she said "I don't know, but most of the women we see, it's because of odd bleeding that's not supposed to happen.
I was scanned, no thickening, how could it thicken if I bleed every month and have less HRT oestrogen than I had naturally a few years ago, y'know?

I had the private appt as I didn't think the evoral was strong enough (& the GP thinks pessaries & hrt are an either or situation) & I wanted to try testosterone

I added in an extra half patch last night and I do feel a bit better on it (Maybe too soon to tell) but I know the night before patch change is pretty bad with sweats & insomnia

"periods" must be so annoying for you - and frustrating not to know why!

At least I get to use the menstrual cup I bought age 45, I wish I'd known those existed from my teens! I thought I'd not get much use out of it, you just never know!

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today, it certainly seems to be everything to do with the HRT change. It seems like the medicine itself suits you, but now your body's confused after the changes, fingers crossed it's temporary.

If the half week is too long and the patch is running out, you might do better on a daily application of gel instead?

I didnt mind the gel too much when we had the great hrt patch famine; but I hated the ultogestan tablet Headaches and nausea

I also hated  the norethisterone tablet with the evoral 75 but imo I was taking too much of it as I probably needed 1.5 and they only made 5 tablets (not sure of the unit)

I did wonder about cutting each patch in to 3 and having 1 a day

I've also recently gone on levothyroxine

And i was at the GPs picking up a form today and gossiping with reception saying how my 80yo grandma had better flexibility and stamina than I had ( can't put my clothes on standing up, struggle with shoes and socks, falling over)

And they insisted I speak to a Dr who wants to see me next Wed

But it could be so many things as I'm just generally 'poorly' with non specific illnesses (CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia,  IBS, hypermobility, partial prolapse, rectocele, bladder repair, scarring from an ectopic in 2000)

Feeling quite down atm; thanks for listening @pastie supper

You could be bleeding because the dose in the conti patches is less than the tablets so it's acting as a withdrawal bleed. I change my patch every 3.5 days, if your symptoms return after 3 days you could change it every 3 days.

I'm seeing the dr next week about various symptoms

They started last year and Ive tried to 'fix' it with different HRT, testosterone, levothyroxine changing hrt again

so now its time for thinking laterally - shall we have bets on me being offered antidepressents for increasing muscle weakness, abdomen pain, brain fog and losing words! amongst others!! you've got to laugh

We know its not my uterus (scan last Monday) & it cant be my ovaries unless they are haunting me from beyond the incinerator!
