Author Topic: Will I absorb testogel if I wasn't absorbing transdermal oestrogen?!  (Read 538 times)

Hi ladies

So having finally won the GP battle to get oestrogen tablets (due to consistently poor absorption of patches/gel) + Testogel as well now, I'm now worrying that if I'm a poor absorber then I won't absorb Testogel either.

I hate the fact I've already found something else to worry about just when I've finally got what I want  ::)

I can't find anything online about this so am hoping someone here has found they do absorb T even if they didn't absorb O.

Hi olive
Congrats on obtaining the testosterone!  :)

I seem to remember from the brief time that I used T, that you can apply T to different areas of the body, compared to O.

For example, I used tostron on the inner forearms. Testogel was on the stomach.

Also, bear in mind, you are only using a small blob of T.

Given the different application sites and quantity being used, you have a decent chance of the T being absorbed.

Good luck! 🤞

Hi Olive, in my case it was very much a case of can't absorb one, can't absorb the other (oestrogen and T) though if anything my T absorption was even worse than oestradiol. After a few years of useless applications of blobs in various body parts I got an implant and finally my T has reached decent levels almost immediately (and boy do I feel it in my muscular strength).
When they implanted the T, they also wanted to implant oestrogen but I convinced them to let me do one at a time to see what did what in terms of effects, otherwise how could you possibly tell.
So next month I'll be having a new T implant and my first oestrogen one.
This is obviously just me, also bearing in mind that my SHBG is high which means 'free' hormonal levels are low even if the total number is ok (that said, the BMS are now disregarding the Free Androgen Index on the basis that a review of the evidence showed that the evidence is flawed/lacking).
You might consider implants if you are a poor absorber (I get mine on the the NHS by the way)...

Thank you Naz and lazla

I guess I will have to wait and see where I am in 3 months at the next blood test (and symptoms!) and try not to fret (easier said than done).

lazla very interesting that you got an implant on the NHS - can I ask: are you in any special medical circumstances? I know implants are out there but I think they're usually only for very specific indications like early menopause. I envy your muscular strength comment so much - I am going backwards in that respect and there wasn't much of me to start with!

You're welcome Olive. I have no special medical circumstances and got the implant at Chelsea and Westminster hosptial.
I live in London but not in that area and did have to go through a bit of a palaver to get a referral from my GP. It is a badly organized place but I eventually got what I needed so it was worth it.

My muscular strength was pitiful prior to the implant and that at least has improved. It might be worth your looking into places where you might get one without special circs - I know lots of women have to say it's for libido - one good thing about Chelsea is that they recognize T helps for other stuff so I didn't have to lie (it's not that T doesn't help with libido, obviously it does, but that wasn't what I personally cared about).
