Getting the right HRT
« on: January 09, 2024, 01:07:21 PM »

Hi everyone,

This is my first post but I want to thank you all for the guidance and massive amounts of information I've digested since scrolling furiously for the last few months, way more than any health professional has been willing or able to share!

I am having trouble at the moment finding the right progesterone. After taking Yasmin and latterly Eloine for years continuously with great success, I was transferred in July this year to Everol 50 sequential HRT, after some bladder irritation and blood tests confirming I was 'menopausal'. The first two weeks on oestrogen were fab, but I quickly descended into a daze where nothing mattered, I totally withdrew from life and wasn't interested in anything. On top of that the body aches were unbearable. Skin was great though and no bladder pain but felt like I had just lost my personality and ability to socialise completely, especially on the progesterone weeks. I then tried this same HRT continuously (as my periods were draining, heavy and painful). Lasted four days due to racing heart, crippling anxiety and tears.

The only last available solution from my doctor was a mirena coil but in my previous dealings with levonestragel in trying to find a contraceptive pill (anxiety, depression and sickness) I really didn't want to go there again. From there I went to Newson Health. They switched me to Everol 75 with 200mg Utrogestan. Oestrogen was way to high for me so I reduced again to 50. When taking the Utrogenstan at this and then a reduced dose (both ways) I suffered dizziness, depression and anxiety and had to stop taking after a week. I ended up in accident and emergency with blood sugar spiking and dizzy headaches, which was so tramatising. Newson Health have directed me to take 3 months off progesterone completely and then try Utrogestan again. At the moment I feel ok but still not like myself. It's like waiting for a ticking timebomb to go off as I know there will be a period coming and sooner or later I will be back on a progesterone that didn't agree with me before.

I feel that the newer progesterones are best for me, as they seem to regulate mood. At the moment my mental health feels fragile, especially since I still haven't settled on a plan that works. I am thinking of asking for Qlaira or Zoely (or just going back onto Yasmin, but oestrogen would most likely not be enough). The real answer to this I suspect would be Angeliqu, which of course is not available in the UK.

Are any private clinics able to still prescribe it and is anyone getting it in this way?
Can some of the newer combined pills be topped up with Oestrogen gel or vaginal pessaries?
No one has mentioned Tibolone as an option, should I pursue this?

I'm 45 and not living life to the full  ;D

Wow, I'm reading your post & can so relate to the horrific utrogestan intolerance. I was also told to have a break from the Utrogestan and continue with the 50 patch. I just can't face starting the utrogestan again, I also ended up in a&e, I couldn't stay awake, Heart racing & confused. Very scary! I have been taking Cerelle for 15yrs + without issue and I'm considering just sticking with it as the progesterone element.  I'm just confused as some people say it's OK, others that 2 tablets are required or that it's absolutely not advised. It's such a mine field! Any advice would be appreciated.
