Had the hysteroscopy
« on: December 23, 2023, 08:26:26 AM »

Hello ladies, just wanted to check on and say I had the hysteroscopy yesterday. Apparently the consultant said she thought everything looked good, no polyps to remove in the end and so she just took the biopsy and has sent it off as urgent as my whole case has been marked as so. She said the results will be back on 2 weeks, so not long. I'm not worried after she said it looked OK.
This was my first GA and that was the only thing I was worried about but my goodness what an odd experience- the anaesthetist was telling me what he was doing and I remember the oxygen mask going over my face. Next thing the nurse is calling my name, where did the time go!! I just had cramps for about half an hour and that was it. My husband was in there waiting with me so it was nice.
So really just also posting to reassure anyone who is going to have the procedure,  it actually ok.
I feel great today which is good because I've got a wildebeest of a turkey to cook on Monday!!

Forgot to mention that the consultant also said my atrophy is very bad and she had a lot of trouble getting the speculum in - I had told her this.  I'm actually really pleased finally someone in the medical profession has acknowledged it. In my older posts I'd mentioned I self diagnosed VA from reading on this forum after years of being diagnosed of anything but that and absolute agony. When I told my GP she did an  excruciating internal and said there was very little sign of it.
So I shall certainly make sure she's aware now.

That's great news and very reassuring. GPs really need to get clued up about VA. I had my dryness and itching in my 60s diagnosed as cystitis and it took a specialist to diagnose VA. Had never heard of it before..nor my GP it seems, in spite of years of very painful cervical smears.

You're so right Ceebee. I saw countless GP and specialists who still didn't diagnosed mine. The lady yesterday was the first after 12 years to confirm that's what it is. So infuriating.  If I can get the info online,  why don't they know?

So glad to hear the procedure went well. I will be having the same in the new year. Not too worried about the GA as have had before for a colonoscopy a few years back, but it’s weird having no recollection of what went on! I guess that’s the whole idea.
I asked for GA as I too have VA and to compound the issue have also never had children!
Prognosis looks good for you from what the consultant said.
Now, enjoy your Christmas  :)

Thank you ladies for your kind replies.
Nervous and awake: no kids for me either so very pleased to have a GA.
Watched the procedure on YouTube today - not before! Ugh so glad I knew nothing about it, looked awful 😖 😱 😆😆😆
