Anyone feel as periods go further apart symptoms get worse
« on: December 30, 2023, 12:26:11 PM »

Periods now 8months apart. Not on hrt. Taking omega 3, starflower, vit b and d. Feeling like an old woman. Stiffness, muscle ache, dry skin etc . Anyone else noticed symptoms get worse as periods get further apart?

Hi Deva 1. Yes but I think this is to be expected as periods getting further apart shows your oestrogen level is dropping. Would you consider HRT? It helps with all of the things you mention. There is an Alternative Therapies thread if you would like more ideas on what supplements might help you though.

Thanks for replying. Not a candidate for hrt. Was wondering if symptoms get worse until you finally stop periods then hopefully start to settle. As body adjusts to the new you as it were. I'm 55 now so hope so. Any supplement suggestions for muscle aches? I do stretches .

Hopefully someone will be along with recommendations. You could post under the Alternative Remedies thread. I think that's what it's called. I'm in my late sixties and have been on HRT since I was 53 so I haven't had to find another solution.

Once your periods stop it is thought that symptoms settle within two years but, of course, oestrogen levels continue to slowly decrease for the rest of our lives. This is why, nowadays, even when post meno ovaries are usually not removed if you have to have a hysterectomy. Hopefully you will be able to find something to ease your muscle aches.

I think magnesium helps muscle aches. You can get it in tablet form or a spray. I think there are two types of magnesium. Hopefully someone else can advise. Muscle aches is about the only symptom I don’t get!

Also I've just remembered low vitamin D can cause muscle aches and cramps. Get yours checked if you haven't. It's not included in normal blood tests. You have to specifically request it.

Absolutely I do. Stands to reason. But very scary.

Deva - R U able to explain what U mean - 'not a candidate for HRT'?

Low oestrogen levels may cause aches and pains as muscle become lax.  Also the body may become dry: inside and out; eyes, nostrils, deep in the ears, skin, vagina, anus ...... HRT can also protect against bone loss and heart conditions.

For vaginal dryness there are several prescribed products that help because vaginal atrophy mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms really really well!  And which GPs still do not recognise!!!!

Browse round Deva1.  Make notes ;-).   :welcomemm:

Thanks for replies. Will give magnesium a try. Not a candidate for hrt due to medical stuff but not keen anyway. Good to know that others have noticed the same 👍
