Help - advice needed! missed ten days of Utrogestan
« on: December 16, 2023, 11:04:13 PM »

I’m on Estrogel/Utrogestan regime, estrogel every day, Utrogestan first ten days.  This month I’ve had other health issues which have distracted me and I completely forgot to take my ten days of Utrogestan.  I’m not quite sure what to do.  Can anyone help?

I was told by a specialist menopause nurse to start taking oestrogen for 2 or 3 months then add in progestogens after we see if the oestrogen is ok.
In other words a couple of months here and there does no harm.
I've researched this online over recent weeks and months and some HRTs like tridestra are designed to be taken this way. The clinical trials I found looked at women over 60 who took unopposed oestrogen for five years without a break, that was shown to be a risk for the endometrium. There isn't evidence of a risk if the time frame is only a few months or the woman in question is younger.

I'd just take it now if it's convenient, then maybe keep your cycle shorter for a few months until you are taking it at the start of the month again.
That or just wait until the start of January and forget it ever happened!

I would take it now if you're not bleeding. If you still have a cycle of your own you can adjust the utro accordingly. Missing one month is unlikely to do any long term harm but I disagree that missing several months is risk free. Whilst there may not be evidence of risk I don't think there's evidence it's safe either.

Yes, I'd disagree with that as well, there just isn't the evidence either way.

Thank you ladies.  I’ve decided to take it now until 10th Jan and will go back to normal after that.
