Garage asking for address
« on: December 13, 2023, 03:36:59 AM »

Hi all

I contacted a specialist garage that was recommended by other ones, and at first no one was answering the phone all day, but I figured that was because he was very busy due to being the specialist they all refer to.

But on top of that his website doesn't say a lot about him.

Anyway he's asked me by text for my details, including address, and then he'll book me in.

I think I'll just give him the email address, I'm not comfortable giving my address to strangers.  I don't know this business.

What do others think?  I've probably p'd him off now for not responding.

Hi Kara, not quite sure why he needs your address. These companies who have "specialised" somewhere in their description are often a pain to deal with,THEY call the shots.I need a specialist garage for the car I own and have to travel for miles and miles to get there and he's never asked for my address. I wonder if this person has had people not pay their bills, maybe that's why he's asking??

Maybe he wants to know if you are local.  Why not give him your email address and your village or town where you live.

Yes it it were me I would prefer to give minimal details. The guy who does our car is local, and recommended and picks the car up and returns it so obviously needs full details.
It pays to be careful giving full details out unless necessary to the job

Usually 1 is given a slot for the vehicle to be looked at - i.e. take it along to C whether the garage can deal with the problem.  Then if necessary details can be given.

Is the garage AA or RAC approved or approved by a dealership?

Good question.  I can't deal with it now.  Too much to do.  I've given other details inc email address etc, but he's come back with asking what is my home address.

Huge red flag to me and I can't respond until I know more.  And that can't be now.

sorry world
