Hi, not been on here for very long time but just waiting for a pharmastic to ring for a review of my ovestine which I have been on for about 6 years. Now when I looked on my repeat perscripton on nhs app it say I have to take it with progesterone and estrogen which I do at the moment anyway, but I am not aware that we need full hrt with viginal estrogen. Has guildline changed or is my doctor wrong. I personally don't think they are very clued up and am waiting to see meno specialist. Again lol.

I have used 'ovestin' without HRT for years.   Something to inform the pharmacist about.

Thanks. I think it is way behind the time. It get me really stressed as I am scared they will take it off me. I can not understand why they suddenly put the extra advice on my repeat as they have not done this before. I will have to speak.to a doctor as this needs removing. They also took me off testosterone treatment as I had been on it 5 years and wouldn't give me more hence why I insisted I saw a meno specialist which by all accounts is very good.

I have been on ovestin about 5 years and my gp has made no mention of progesterone.   I don't think it's necessary.  It's really worrying when things like this happen as you need the ovestin.

Women with a womb who are prescribed oestrogen HRT will need progesterone if they have a womb.  Some ladies without a womb also require progesterone ....... it can get a bit confusing

So if I'm using ovestin I need something else? I only use it externally with vagifem

It's absolutely fine to use Ovestin or Vagifem alone or together as they are not systemic but used topically.
Systemic HRT is a total different ball game!

Can I just clarify here, both Ovestin and Vagifem are an HRT treatment that is used topically. It is not systemic HRT and the reason you can buy it over the counter.
As I mentioned previously, systemic HRT is entirely different and needs constant monitoring for the time it is taken.

Shelly65, I think there is confusion here somewhere by your pharmacist or surgery.

To me, any estrogen is HRT, whether its systemic or localised. So I wasn't sure wen I read the post, whether I was missing something.

You are correct, Jules. Any estrogen is of course hormone replacement therapy.

It has to be, its just applied in a different way. I wonder if I'll reach a stage when it's not enough, not keeping up with the aging. I really wish I didn't need to use it.

That worry worm gets in my head too and i have to park it.  I rely especially on ovestin on the vulva area.  Dearly wish i could get hold of estradiol cream.
