Coming off progesterone
« on: February 01, 2024, 01:04:53 AM »

Hi all, long story short(ish) … I was put on daily progesterone only (Norethisterone) a couple of years ago due to having long and heavy periods with a lot of flooding. Tests showed minor fibroids but nothing too bad. I take no other hormone meds, have had no problems at all on prog and since starting it have not had a period but did have spotting for a couple of days each month when my period would have been due but over the last 6 months I’ve not even had that.

I’m 54 now and wondering whether I still need prog or if my periods may have stopped naturally by now so I’m thinking of stopping the prog to see what happens.

I’m trying to get a gp appt to discuss it but in the meantime was just wondering if anyone here has experience of coming off prog after a few years and whether it’s best to just stop or to come off gradually?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions 🙂

Hi, I take 1 x 5mg pill every day. Apart from it stopping my periods I’ve not noticed any side effects since being on it so did wonder if just stopping it would be ok. I must admit I’m slightly worried about the possibility of floods returning if I may still be in peri but I guess the only way to know is to stop taking it and see what happens 🤔
