Where to get Androfeme
« on: October 13, 2023, 01:46:47 PM »

Hi

Do you have recommendations for Androfeme suppliers with private prescription, please. Local pharmacy can't get it.

Thanks
Katie

Hi AKatieD - I think it is only available from private menopause specialists and you can find a list of BMS recommended ones here: https://thebms.org.uk/find-a-menopause-specialist/

There are women on here who use it and hopefully someone will be along to let you know how they got hold of it.

You're probably best trying Boots or a similar big chain and ask them to give you a note saying they can't get it in, so you can show your doctor the note and get an altered prescription.

I had a prescription for micronised progesterone 200mg pessaries for days. I tried various pharmacies and they said they stock 100s, not 200s.
I was even told it isn't available in the UK by one pharmacist.

In Boots they said they had 100s, I finally gave up, got my other items and asked for a note for my doctor so I could get a different prescription for 24 of 100s instead of the 12 of 200s on the prescription.

The guy printed me off an owing slip for the 12 x 200mg pessaries, this was my note for the doctor.

The next day I got a text and my 200mg Utrogestan with vaginal applicators was waiting for me to collect in Boots.

Someone somewhere will be able to fill your prescription for you.
As I found, once they actually take your prescription and give you an owing slip, miracles can happen  ;D ;D ;D

Ok, thanks both.

I know it is out there but Boots online stock checker did not find it, one local pharmacy said can't get it and another said will charge £170 per tube!

Could not get much from Google apart from some places that you have to pay for a consultation first, when I have already done that to get the script.

Tried phoning around bigger pharmacies in London around Harley st area and Pharmacierge and Madesil keep it and wil post out - in case anyone else is trying to obtain.

Thanks, ladies, Pharmacierge charging £93 too so that sounds like reasonable price if you are paying similar. Madesil more expensive.

However this is a licensed product -whereas Androfeme is not as yet.

I am ineterested to hear that it is actually possible to buy it from online pharmacies, though I would hope that a proper consultation and prescription is issued before selling it?

Oh, that's interesting Hurdity, I thought others here were saying the 200mg vaginal pessaries by Utrogestan weren't licensed in the UK, but are in France and Belgium, I did wonder how I got them in the UK if they weren't licensed  ;D

Hi pastiesupper

They ARE actually licensed for fertility but NOT for HRT - but this is absoultely bonkers because when I first started using Utrogestan, both the 200 mg and the 100 mg capsules were available and licensed for HRT. The 200 mg utrogestan was obviously packaged differently with different leaflet for HRT than for fertility, and was licensed for oral use only, but they are exactly the same capsule. Some while ago I went onto the French medicines site (equivalent to our EMC) and looked at their product info. I posted a thread on it somewhere which I can bump if you're interested. Then some years ago they stopped producing the 200 mg utrogestan for HRT so anyone using 200 mg had to have 2 x 100 mg. Those of us using it vaginally ( off licence) had to contend with poking up these minute 100 mg balls - very fiddly. I did this for years but have now, since a thickened lining and gynae recommendation, managed to get the proper vaginal 200 mg capsules prescribed on NHS! Hooray!

I think the correct term is off-label for vaginal use of Utrogestan as part of HRT? So it is licensed to be used on NHS as a product - if you get me?

Androfeme has not yet been licensed here.

You got the 200 mg capsules because you have an enlightened GP that knows the position!
