Insomnia before ovulation
« on: September 28, 2023, 05:01:38 AM »

Hi all

I am currently on oestrogel and Utrogestan (12 days) as I’m perimenopausal.

I’m finding around days 13-18 that I cannot sleep at night.  I’m exhausted and go to bed early, but have a hideous  time trying to sleep.

I’m trying to work out if this is because I need to start utrogestan early, or if I need more Estrogen or quite frankly what I need to be doing.

This happens every month.

Even if I take amitriptyline (for joint pain) which makes you drowsy, I still can’t sleep.

Days 1-12 I sleep like a baby. A good solid 8 hours sleep a night and feels good.  Then it’s totally down hill for a week and then things improve.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly received!

I get this on the days I take utrogestan, and it's especially bad before my period, I just lie awake all night 😞

I've been like this for 3 years. I think it's possibly the utrogestan causing it. Perhaps a different progesterone would help ?

I was using a progesterone cream a few years ago before I started Hrt called progest, and I had the best sleep ever on that.

I also have this on utrogestan and am on it 12 days pm. I go to sleep fine, but wake up 2-3am and then am awake for hours, it's horrible. I haven't linked it to ovulation but defo my sleep worsens when on the utrogestan.

Once I start utrogestan my insomnia goes.

Oh wow I wish that happened for me. Last night fell asleep 9pm, woke hlup at 10pm thinking I'd been asleep half the night and then awake for ages.
