Changed from Vagifem to Estradiol pessaries.
« on: September 13, 2023, 05:44:44 PM »

Been on Vagifem for quite a while now and ticking along nicely most of the time! I received a text this morning from GP surgery to say that they are moving me off of  the Vagifem from my next prescription. On reading on here I understand that they are same but reusable applicator.

My concern is applicator. During pandemic I had a box of faulty Vagifem that didn't make the click noise when applicator was pressed and I ended up with a big flare up of VA. Possibly could be coincidence but I put it down to that. So any users of the estradiol pessaries, does the applicator work in same way, such as it clicks?

I shall obviously try it, have no choice, but nightmare to get GP appointment to discuss a change back and chance may not agree to it.

It's due to costs.   >:(

Time to get an appt with a dedicated menopause clinic for proper advice.

I actually don't understand what you mean, Tinkerbell.  You won't need to hear a click to know that the pessary has been inserted, once its up there its doing its job. You can use your finger to push it up, I've had to do that when I've made a pigs ear of trying to insert my pessary, just bunged it up there with my finger.

Every one I have used has made a click noise when you press plunger end. The faulty box I had didn't . The pharmacist said that it may have not been placed correctly because of the fault and that did coincide with the VA flare up.

CKLD- I did see a meno specialist via the NHS, never again if he is still practicing. He wanted me to have a womb biopsy because of my over use of Vagifem. I was still peri and getting periods and had only been using it for six months. I then paid privately to see someone who knew what they were talking about.

The pessary doesn't have to go that far up to continue to work, Tinkerbell. I wouldn't worry about it and you were probably by coincidence suffering from a flare up of VA which we all know is common. Remember anxiety, feeling run down can bring on a flare up.

I'm currently using those. I get vagifem, vagirux or estradiol. I don't here the click but not sure why it matters. I press it, the pessary has gone when I take it out so job done and I've had no ill effects whichever I use.
