Utrogestran dose, new guidelines?
« on: September 01, 2023, 12:15:47 PM »

Hi
I  am 57 and have been happily taking HRT for about 6 years.  My regime is 2 X 1mg ( 2 sachets) of sandrena gel in the morning and 1 X 100mg of Utrogestran (orally) at night continuously.

I had a check-up call with the GP yesterday  to get another prescription and she said the guidelines on how much progesterone is needed has changed and new guidelines suggest that as 2mg of sandrena is a relatively high dose I should now take 200mg of progesterone every night.

I can't tolerate that much progesterone so am now in a dither.  I don't want to reduce my gel as I still get some night sweats on the current amount but equally can't face more progesterone 😬

I can't really find any info on this change.  Has anyone else been told this?

Thanks

I'd heard mention on here a month or so ago that the guidelines were due to change re utrogestan dose, so unfortunately it may well be true.

It is advised to take 200mg of Utrogestan if you are having bleeding, but otherwise 100mg is ok up to the licensed amount of oestrogen.

Is that four pumps, Dotty? Thanks x

I think guide lines have changed.
Can’t recall where I’ve seen it documented, but it’s somewhere. Maybe on NICE webpage?

Have a look at this thread where I asked Dr Currie about increasing Utrogestan.

Thanks for the link. I believe 4 pumps is equal to 2 sachets.

My understanding from the link then is that as long as I am not going above 2 sachets and gave no bleeding I should be okay to carry on on 100 mg of Utrogestran.

If I have understood correctly.

Thanks

I think 2 sachets of Sandrena is actually above what is licenced which I think is only 1.5mg though 😬🤦

Could you ask her for a link to the guidelines she's looking at?

As an FYI I got a reply for Louise Newson ( DM on insta) to say increasing to 200mg is not based on evidence
