Nas in your position, the tummy ache sounds like an issue that needs attention and maybe this is your fibroid if it is large. When post-menopause as you are, and stabilised on HRT, if the womb is protected and there is no bleeding then under normal circumstances there should be no pain. This may well be a separate issue that has nothing to do with the balance of oestrogen and progestogen, and especially as nothing has changed ince May 2022?

What dose and type of oestrogen are you taking. I agree with others that the body can change in its sensitivity - for one thing our skin changes so that must affect absoprtion of transdermal HRT surely? Are you able to ask for a blood tests given your particular circumstances and ongoing issues?

I can't explain the PMS type rage although an androgenic progestogen such as in the Mirena could potentially lead to this but odd for it only to happen now?

Wishing you all the best with your appt anyway and hope the tummy issues are resolved soon....hang in there if you can and see if painkillers ease the tummyache while waiting for your appointment. if it is really bad so you feel you can't cope in the meantime, then do phone 111 or go to A and E if you are worried?

However, when I saw the MS last week, she strongly suggested I went on testosterone only HRT (??), so now I have a tube of Androfeme accompanied by a head that says HRT is great, go for it, and a body which says NOPE, no more. I admit the science and research she showed me were compelling for testosterone only HRT and it’s becoming more common. If it were to be believed, all of us would be on testosterone only……sorts out everything from hot flushes to brain fog and everything in between apparently.

I would like to see the science and research that shows that testosterone only is recommended for menopausal symptoms in post-menopausal women - ie trials that show its efficacy and safety in the absence of oestrogen. Which is the clinic where this has been recommended? I would be very interested if you can get hold of the links to the refs!

Hi Hurdity,

It was Newson Health who persuaded me to try testosterone only. I will see if I can get hold of the research and studies I was shown.

Ermin

This is one of the papers I read.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9331845/

You may not agree with it or have another opinion, however I am only going on the directions of the menopause specialist at Newson Health. I think you can tell by my reply to Nas that I am undecided about what to do.

Thanks Hurdity,

Yes i rather feel that the tummy ache may be fibroid related. It’s been going on for a good few months now and the recent pelvic scan did show a bulky uterus and a subserosal fibroid of 6cm.

PMS.. possibly low oestrogen? Classic symptoms emerging; weeing loads, apathy, irritability, jittery etc. Maybe there isn’t enough oestrogen to balance with the mirena?

Maybe I’m just not absorbing from the patch? I’ve been on the 75 evorel patch since 2020 ( give or take a couple of months on femeston conti last spring).

Mirena went in May 2022, as I was experiencing a lot of post menopausal bleeding on and off.
After a while, the mirena settled and I carried on, bleed free.

Last week, I had a bleed, out of the blue, accompanied by awful pms symptoms.

Now on the 2 week wait pathway , bleeding stopped, but PMS bad.

Have emailed MS to ask what route to take re: mirena removal. Left a message with mirena nurse and will chase up my gynae appointment.

Went to a&e in July with pain. Was told to wait for scan. No doubt if I turn up to a&e again, it will be, wait for your gynaecology appointment!

I do feel for you, Nas. I've been reading your posts about your horrendous menopause journey but could never reply because I have no idea what you are going through having not walked in your shoes!

Just to wish that you get it all sorted soon, it's ridiculous what you have had and are still going through XX

Ermin, I totally understand why you feel undecided re: the testosterone only HRT pathway. There have been a couple of threads on this subject in the past  and testosterone does seem to have the ability to tackle a fair few menopausal symptoms.

When/ if you feel ready, you may decide to give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised how you feel and if you react adversely, you can always stop?

Pleased that you are feeling good, as you had a very rough ride recently.

I would definitely give your body a break before contemplating additional hormones again. They certainly have their place for many women, but it sure is a balancing act! X

Thanks Ayesha,
Yes this journey is testing me for sure!

Somehow, I need to navigate myself through this road of treacle and come out the other end, in one piece 🤞x

I had rages prior to a bleed, DH would recognise symptoms long B4 I did!  Rages certainly were problematic for some women including those that went on to kill at that stage of their cycle.  Dr Dalton again ...... represented several in Court.

Hopefully you will sort this.

Thanks CLKD.
I hope i sort it too.

Was queuing for the toilet in Asda earlier. A woman barged in and stood in front of me. Cubicle door opens and she tries to dive in! I politely reminded her, I was before her. She was having none of it, so the rage kicked in!  :( :o

Oh CCTV available ?  ;).   I would have raged too.  Unless the person had a card where she needs sudden access.

Do U feel better after a rage?

No CCTV ;D

No, the rage is bubbling permanently. I’m suspecting low oestrogen again. But with the fibroid, I can’t increase easily due to pain.

Time to get coil out and start again, I don’t know.

I didn’t have much bother with utrogestan other than bleeding.

Maybe a different oestrogen and progesterone might work better.

Get rid of the coil initially?  That way you can control any progesterone required.

Ah, there’s the dilemma!
Who will remove the coil!

GP says “ no” we don’t do it here.

Sexual health clinic says “ no” as I’m out of area.

Private wants £300+

Have emailed MS for advice.

Left voice message with nurse who fitted the coil.
