Hi all

In brief...

I'm in Scotland and I want to try testesterone as an addition to my HRT due to zero libido.
I really cannot face going through my GP  (history of not being helpful regarding HRT :( )  and the subsequent AGE to see a NHS specialist.

Could anyone say if they indeed prescribe testotserone in Scotland?  (I ask this because for several years Utrogestan was stopped from being prescribed in West Lothian due to it being 'unsafe' ;) but it was clearly down to cost, as it is now back ;) So you never know in Scotland...)

Could anyone recommend a menopause specialist I might pay to see to get the testosterone without going on an endless NHS waiting list?

Thank you so much - and hope you are all having a good day  :)

Do you need to see someone in Scotland? If you're happy with zoom, I can recommend Dr Olivia Hum from Myla Health (previously Sussex Women's Health or similar). Another doctor there who I have been recommended, but not personally seen if Dr Zoe Schaedel. I don't know either of their vires on testosterone though x

Good idea, thank you. I'd not thought of zoom etc :)

Hi Clovis,

I was told by my meno specialist that it’s up to the GP practice whether they will prescribe in Scotland even on her recommendation.
No harm in asking if your gp will prescribe? My gp wouldn’t so I get it on private prescription.

My meno specialist is with the Newson Clinic and we do Zoom consults.

All the best!

Thank you Evie, :)  Was testosterone private prescription issued by Newson then?  Thanks! :)

Hi Clovie,

Yes I get a private script from her and then shop around for the best price. You’ll be surprised at the differences between pharmacies.

Hi Clovie,

I am in Scotland too and also got a private prescription from Newson to try Testosterone - not sure if it helped me or not but was straight forward to get it.

They write a letter to your GP as part of the consultation letting them know their recommendations.

Hi

Try Dr Perrera based in Glasgow. He is on the NHS but also does private zoom calls for 150 pounds. He prescribes Testosterone and has also been prescribing me oestrogel for which he doesnt charge!

If you give me a private PM I will give you his PAs number although I am aware he is on holiday this week. I got to see him within days.

Just a slight warning here...I tried Testosterone as a magic bullet and had to come off it after 6 weeks as I felt terrible. I dont think my Oestrogen was quite high enough to start it and I will no doubt try it again but it didnt work for me at this stage - 45 and peri. I know many many others who LOVE it though.

Clovie, I'm in Edinburgh and see my menopause specialist, Dr Faye Roger.  She is based with spire health care, and she prescribed me Tostran.  She has been fabulous.  It took a bit of persuasion, but finally, my Gp agreed to prescribe it.  Again, I think it's up to your Gp, but I stuck to my guns.
