Reaction to some vaginal pessaries?
« on: August 06, 2023, 12:19:29 AM »

Anyone else experienced this?
I started on Imvaggis but there’s been a shortage so had to go to Vagifem and now Vagirux. I seem to be having adverse reaction to these two - itching/ vulval and vestibular pain and sensitivity and I noticed hand and feet sensitivity and feeling anxious after the pessary tonight. Unable to sleep.
I am wondering if this is ‘a thing’?
Wondering about going back on Imvaggis if now available, or trying Ovestin?

I notice many members seem to react to Vagirux. I too am sensitive to all localised oestrogen other then Ovestin. Imvaggis made my skin feel really irritated and Vagifem gave me stomach cramps. Luckily I seem to be able to tolerate Ovestin.

I think it is worth trying Ovestin to see how you feel on it.

These symptoms usually ease after a few nights.  'vagifem' and 'ovestin' don't seem to give as many side effects.  I think the other two products are cheaper?

Sometimes 1 has to insert a little way inside initially, if the skin is thin there may be some stinging sesnations which ease once there is more moisture in the vagina and vulval areas.  Let us know how you get on.

Hi

I can’t use vagifem. I’m fine with ovestin though, so yes it’s a thing x

Hi Mouse60

Sorry to hear about your problems.
I think I have had a reaction to Vagirux too, (can't say for sure as I have a few other things going on) but my VA worsened when I was moved from Vagifem to Vagirux. I had no problem on vagifem which I had been on since 2019, was given vagirux in Dec 2022 by Jan my VA pain was back. I have been buying and using Vagifem instead. It is strange as the ingredients do seem to be the same but I'm wondering if the balance of fillers is different as they don't show the percentage of these. I'm no scientist but I tested how they dissolve in water and the Vagifem is much cleaner than the Vagirux so something is different.
I am considering trying the estring if my problems are down to Vagirux.
Hope that info helps and hope things improve for you soon xxx

It's is often the fillers/packaging that causes side effects.

Thanks all.
I am going to monitor it - have a Dr appointment end of Aug so good enough time to monitor the effects.
I was happy to try Vagirux because less plastic but feeling I maybe need to try Ovestin.

Ovestin comes with one applicator so it can be washed and reused. :)

When I enquired with my menopause  specialist about an alternative to imvaggis she offered me Blissel gel as the closest one to imvaggis. I haven’t tried it though because I managed to buy from Oxford pharmacy online they had another delivery so you could possibly purchase some.

Quick update.
Been on Vagirux for about a month. Two massive flare ups of soreness and itching, and pretty unbearable in between.
Went back to Vagifem last night. No issues.
That concludes that, then.

Well done on putting foot down with firm hand.  Have U reported side effects on the yellow card system?  R U using every night for at last 7 to plump up the tissues?

What’s the yellow card thingy?
Did all the plumping U.K. stuff a few months ago so just using twice a week now.
